Why Weren´t Pine and Quinto Billed As Stars?

In the credits and on all the movie posters the names of the actors are presented in alphabetical order. But why? The movie is about Kirk and Spock and most of the posters featured them. Shouldn´t Pine and Quinto been billed as the stars of the movie?

My guess is that they didn´t want to pay Pine and Quinto the big bucks this time.

There's actually a lot of contractual issues tied up in how to set up credits. A lot of times when there's a major star in a movie, there contracts require that they get top billing or be placed before the title of the film. This is why you'll often see major stars with small parts come at the end of the acting credits with an "And...", like how Eric Bana was credited.

Seeing as how many people STILL hadn't heard of either actor by the time the last movie came out I suppose it was smart to hype Nimoy and Bana a lot more than the other stars of the film. As late as 2008-09 many of the cast weren't well known outside of cult movies and TV shows.
