Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season 3?

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

And a good choice was made IMO.. but really I can't wrap my head around Kes being sexy, it just doesn't work for me at all.

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

No, they got rid of Kim for Seven, and then they got rid of Kes for Kim.

Kim was not living up to his sexiness... People Magazine disagreed.

People Magazine won that argument.

I'm assuming that they chose Jennifer because she was paid about the same as Garrett.

How could I have lost track of this when I have discussed it ten thousand times.

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

How much farther could they have realistically taken the Kes character, though, since she was developing Advanced Magic Powers that let her do basically anything she wanted?

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

Before and After says that she was integral in the Year of Hell, married Tom, had his babies, mother in lawed Harry Kim and got her complete and unabridged medical certificate.

Of course none of that happened until after B'Elanna died.

Imagine every now and then Kes tries to get away with a perfect member and somehow B'Elanna just can't seem to get got.

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

I think the problem with Before and After, although it's one of the best episodes of the series, is that it showed us all of the most interesting aspects of Kes's situation in about half-an-hour.

We see her get old while everyone around her is still young. We see how that affects her relationships, even into a second and third generation. After that episode, what was really left to tell?

The doctor could have (and would have, I think) found a way to lengthen Kes's life if TPTB hadn't decided to fire Jennifer Lien. But then what's left that is new? Tuvok is already a telepath. They can't evolve her powers too much or she'll be able to do anything.

She did seem pretty depressed after having Tom's baby. Can't say I blame her.

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

The poor girl was bouncing in and out of The Highlights of Her Life, it's no wonder she needed sorting out. Imagine shifting to a new scene, and before you can even get your bearings, you're giving birth, out of a clear, blue sky! But I liked the whole Tom/Kes angle, as it stemmed from Kes - once, again - helping someone through a difficult period in their life. And that Tom stood by her, even when she had aged and he did not ... through her Alzheimer's and everything ... I felt they should've followed through with their romance in the true timeline. I thought their personalities and backgrounds were an interesting mix. I wonder if Roxann Dawson felt threatened when her character had to die, in order for this to happen - knowing that someone was going to get the axe by Season 4!

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

Well since Tom was originally presented as a playboy badboy it makes sense that he would settle down with a woman whose expiration is built in. This way he doesn't have to be a jerk and take off after a few years when he's bored, nature is guaranteed to do it for him.

................................ANYWAY!!!

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

No one would ever get divorced because by the time you were irritated by your Ocampan spouse they would be dead!

I'm thinking this is a great mail order spouse opportunity. The Ocampan get to leave their awful fishbowl and see the galaxy and the person who ordered an Ocampan gets a lovely, wide eyed, fresh young thing that they only have to tend to during a few months of decrepitude. If you're smart you will have started the paperwork for your next Ocampan as soon as the current one begins to decline.

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

Kes + Seven of Nine could have been a dangerous combination. Too bad it never happened.

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

... Agreed!!!

It would've been the best of BOTH worlds for every VOY FanBoy: Kes would've been the sweet, beautiful angel and Seven, the sex kitten with the giant funbags! They would've been, as you say, "a dangerous combination," certainly for every available man, onboard.

Getting rid of girls on Voyager was a really bad idea. I can't believe it ever made it past the discussion phase, during production meetings, much less going ahead and doing it. Getting rid of Kes, can't help you ... KES!!! What the hell kind of logic was that? Just another signal that, yeah, maybe it was time for Rick Berman to hand the reins over to someone else. Someone far younger and less potty in the head ...

Re: Why Wasn't Neelix considered a candidate for removal after season

I think keeping Kes would have ruined the dynamic that was created between Seven & Niomi.
It would have been too odd IMO to pair Seven with Kes. They were too polar opposite and it would have been too weird a situation to have Seven's childhood friend like Kes grow older than her and die. What kinda jacked up conclusion would that be?

I think Kes was the right choice in the end to let go.
You saw how easy it was to cut what few ties she had and how easy most of the casual viewing audience forgot her.
By 4 eps into the 4th season you didn't even know she had ever been there.

As far as Harry, I'd like to think that he inspires other Asians as a role model.
No Harry wasn't a best character but he was a good guy that wasn't a stereotype.
