Apparently not a match for the best of the Gamma Quadrant... Or for the best of Remus, either, for that matter.
AND the Captin was shown as a bit arrogant and overconfident (which I liked because it in a sense showed how complacent StarFleet had become in the era since Kirk.)

Huh? Enterprise's hull was in much better shape than Scimitar's.
Captain Keogh was a fool. The Odyssey had a vast photon torpedo armament which could have easily destroyed two out of three of those bug ships.
Then Captain Picard was a fool, too, for never using photon torpedoes in close combat.
...Which might have something to do with how their use in such a manner almost destroyed the E-D herself in "New Ground".

What happened to the Odessey's warp and impulse systems? Are you telling me that a Galaxy class is so sluggish that she can't even put a scant few hundred/thousand meters between her and opposing vessels? Wouldn't the Jem'hedar fighters themselves do this as a side effect of making rapid high speed passes?
I seem to recall Picard staring out a runabout window watching the Enterprise explode before him without much concern. That range was certainly much less than 2km.
I reject the the too close for torpedo excuse in most episodes save "The Nth Degree" where the Cytherian probe was chasing the Enterprise.
In retrospect, if they'd wanted to be -truly- audacious they would have evacuated to the battle section, launched the saucer into the Scimitar and then auto-destructed it.

How could she? Let's ignore for a moment the fact that the whole purpose of the fight was to stay, to prevent the enemy from engaging the helpless runabouts. Let's pretend that Keogh only thought about saving his own skin. Let's say he maneuvered at impulse.
The enemy would of course follow, since their weapons operated at short ranges. And with three baddies swooping in and out, at least one would always stay at range while two others could observe the movements of their prey and then leap back into the fray.
Again, probably better to spend the energy points where they counted, at phaser firepower.

I remember thinking after seeing that happened, that Galxy class ships were getting lame.
Then after watching Sacrifice of Angels, I really liked watching them in action.
I think they redeemed themselves in that episode.
It's hard to see, but I think in that episode, you can see a Galaxy class ship take out a Jem Hadar Battle cruiser.

Post if you can.
The Dom Battlecruiser is the equivalent of the Promy.

He's talking about at the beginning of the firefight a Galaxy-class opened up on a Cardassian ship at point-blank range and literally shoved it out of the way with phaser fire.

He might be talking about a moment just before the Klingons arrive. Sisko says something like "Pattern Omega. We're going through", it cuts to an external close up of the Defiant and as the Defiant pulls away you can see a Galaxy in the top right corner sort of swing around and fire and there is an explosion. Had a look at Youtube but the quality wasn't good enough to really tell what it blew up.
That was why the producers insisted upon the scene of the Odyssey being destroyed. It looks like they're getting away then you hear Bashir inform Kira of the suicide run and you assume they'll get the fighter in time, but you never expect to see it get destroyed. It did a good job too. I really expected Odyssey to get away shaken but intact.
