Why was Rom attracted to Leeta physically?

I have noticed that the females who are the objects of alien male desires are almost always attractive human-looking females, even when the female is non-human.It's just a skiffy trope that completely dissimilar species would even be biologically attracted to one another at all. We also see this in the SW universe with Jabba the Hutt and all his humanoid female slaves.
But I say we should see more pairings of radically different species, such as humans and Gorn, humans and Tholians, humans and Horta, humans and Species 8-4-7-2. In a galaxy of such wide diversity of intelligent species, that's the wave of the future.
Am I right, or what?

I remember in "Blood Oath" Kor had his arms wrapped around two lovely human-looking woman. I don't know if they were suppose to be humans or some other species, but they were definitely human looking.
I also remember in "Unification", the Ferengi -- the one who told Riker that he never learned to speak hypothetically -- had two human looking females as his companions.
It seems rare for a radically non-human looking female, like a Ferengi, Gorn or Species 8472, to be shown as the object of desire or lust.
I don't know what the in-universe explanation may be. But in the context of Trek as a tv show, the audience can surely understand why a character -- alien or human -- would be attracted to a beautiful human, or human-looking woman.
We've seen Klingons, Cardassians, and Bolians that way. But rarely, as you say.
Have there even been female Gorn or Species 8472 on screen?
Sexy looking, human female (tall, blonde, blue-eyed, just to fit the real life stereotype of what is considered beautiful) falls in love with Silicona the female Horta ......cos love in the Federation is blind....

Out of curiosity, do people consider Bashir a better match than Rom for a match for Leeta? Bashir, a career oriented man who tends to have trouble relating to women, is somewhat juvenile, and spensds too much time LARPing? Or Rom, a muddle-headed, dedicated, resilient, self-sacrificing man with whom Leeta shares workplace experiences? Moreover, Rom has nose ridges! Big nose ridges! Bashir has none!
Dr. Zimmerman FTW. I can't picture Bashir with anyone for some reason. I don't think the writers could either.
Bashir's ideal women are like perfect supermodels that are super intelligent and super talented in the Arts. He would probably pine for Seven of Nine if he had ever met her, but I'm not sure the feelings would be reciprocated.

Almost every scifi ever made applies the human standard of beauty to all races, DS9's not any different.
Then the possibility of Gorn or Horta would be absolutely inconceivable.
Speaking of which, that should have been Zek's catchphrase: "Inconceivable!"

The Rom/Leeta thing doesn't age well. It's not the actresses fault, but on the page she's DS9's least developed recurring character. I always thought there was the seed of something interesting in how Leeta had emerged from the traumas of the occupation with such a cheerful disposition, that could have been an intriguing angle to flesh out -- the people who emerge from the darkest experiences determined to embrace the sunny side of life.
Really, the perfect guy for her would have been Neelix. Like Rom, looks like a giant space rodent. But like Leeta, Neelix was also a relentlessly upbeat character whose species had been the victim of a near-genocide, with writers not really interested in exploring the connections between those two things. The perfect match!
Maybe Leeta never experienced the occupation. Perhaps she fled to some other system or world where Bajorans were taken as refugees.
Opposite attracts Rom and Leeta are perfectly matched, even better than real life Mr and Mrs Trump

Rom is my least favorite character in all of Trek. Since everything about him is annoying he probably just hooked up with her to c*** block the rest of the galaxy.
Also on TV, remember that men are allowed to be shallow and only date attractive women but women are only allowed to like men for their personality. Haven't you seen romantic comedies?

Rom is shallow? He's tolerant and loyal. He is willing to accept new belief systems. Moreover, she falls for him because he does things like risk his own well-being for labor interests and to keep the quadrant free from the Dominion. Those things are hard to factor out.
I dunno, based on the few relationships we see, I don't think you can say Bashir has "a type".

To my mind, there's a pretty wide range of looks, personalities, intellects, and talents. I'm not saying any of them were ugly or stupid, but they hardly all fall into some super-model-super-intelligent-super-talented category.
Rom is Adam Sandler, Leeta is the Adam Sandler love interest.
You see attractive women in TV and movies fall for unattractive but nice and loyal men all the time, but you never see attractive men fall for unattractive women for the same reason. Just pointing out the blatant cinematic double standard.
And I'm not criticizing Rom, I'm criticizing the writers. Do you really think they would have ever, in a million years, paired an attractive humanlike male with kind and loyal Ferengi female?
