The Rom-Leeta attraction is clearly a case of dramatic necessity taking precedence over realism.
I have noticed that the females who are the objects of alien male desires are almost always attractive human-looking females, even when the female is non-human.It's just a skiffy trope that completely dissimilar species would even be biologically attracted to one another at all. We also see this in the SW universe with Jabba the Hutt and all his humanoid female slaves.
But I say we should see more pairings of radically different species, such as humans and Gorn, humans and Tholians, humans and Horta, humans and Species 8-4-7-2. In a galaxy of such wide diversity of intelligent species, that's the wave of the future.
Am I right, or what?
Kor
We've seen Klingons, Cardassians, and Bolians that way. But rarely, as you say.It seems rare for a radically non-human looking female, like a Ferengi, Gorn or Species 8472, to be shown as the object of desire or lust.
They reminded him of smooth-headed Klingons from the good old days.I remember in "Blood Oath" Kor had his arms wrapped around two lovely human-looking woman. I don't know if they were suppose to be humans or some other species, but they were definitely human looking.
So... she's Section 31, right?
Dr. Zimmerman FTW. I can't picture Bashir with anyone for some reason. I don't think the writers could either.Out of curiosity, do people consider Bashir a better match than Rom for a match for Leeta? Bashir, a career oriented man who tends to have trouble relating to women, is somewhat juvenile, and spensds too much time LARPing? Or Rom, a muddle-headed, dedicated, resilient, self-sacrificing man with whom Leeta shares workplace experiences? Moreover, Rom has nose ridges! Big nose ridges! Bashir has none!
Then the possibility of Gorn or Horta would be absolutely inconceivable.I just can't imagine copulation between Ferengi and humanoid females would look like.
Rom & Leeta always make me uncomfortable. I was rooting for her to hook up with Dr. Zimmerman, and get a more respectable job. He seemed so lonely. She would've been good for him.
Rom is shallow? He's tolerant and loyal. He is willing to accept new belief systems. Moreover, she falls for him because he does things like risk his own well-being for labor interests and to keep the quadrant free from the Dominion. Those things are hard to factor out. Also on TV, remember that men are allowed to be shallow and only date attractive women but women are only allowed to like men for their personality. Haven't you seen romantic comedies?
In the world of TV and movies, the human standard of beauty applies to everybody no matter what they look like even if they are giant slug creatures. All nice guy beta males are entitled by their kindness to have sex with incredibly attractive women, and it is the moral responsibility of all said women to furnish them this reward.
I dunno, based on the few relationships we see, I don't think you can say Bashir has "a type".Bashir's ideal women are like perfect supermodels that are super intelligent and super talented in the Arts.
