Why the hell don't they make a new cartoon?

I once had a dream they made a cartoon based on TNG. This was back when the series was still in production.
Generally, I have not one thing against a new animated series. I have enjoyed the one based on TOS and would not mind seeing what the powers that be could come up with now.

Yay, old thread is back! :rommie:

I don't think many people would watch it aside from die hard fans and kids.

That's probably why.

Yknow what, those populations could probably support an animated series just fine. The Cartoon Network doesn't expect broadcast-level ratings.

Who watches The Clone Wars? Die hard fans and kids. (Plus me, I'm not a die hard Star Wars fan, especially after the PT :p) The last time I checked on the viewership levels, they were 1.6M. That's fine for cable.

I wouldn't really want to see an animated series, and I don't like to think about the comparisons to anything related to the Star Wars new trilogy. But I'm sure I would watch it anyway, and would probably be way more interested in that than NuTrek.

The Clone Wars doesn't suck like the PT. In fact, it's the antidote to (or perhaps apology for) the PT. :rommie:

Anyway, it at least shows that space opera in some form can survive on TV. It's a lot more likely that Star Trek will be back on TV if there's a successful example from which to derive confidence.

The Clone Wars is what we should have gotten in the three films of the PT. But that is an argument for another site entirely.

It will very likely take another "hit" Trek feature for another Trek TV series to be spawned, animated or not, much like the success of IV led to TNG on TV in the late-80s.

They should just audition a bunch of talented voice actors, people nobody here would ever have heard of. Voice acting is an area in which famous names are definitely irrelevant. Just look at The Clone Wars - none of those people are famous, and they handle multiple characters so that often, I can't even tell who is doing what role. All I can tell is the gender of the actor, really.

I think that if the comic is successful they may well produce a cartoon around the time of the third movie. It has been discussed by the producers and it might be a good way to keep the Nu~Trek characters going once the actors have bowed out.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I would hope that they could maybe make this into a new fanchise like in the old TOS movie days and w get more than just a trilogy.
