Why the hate for "Too Short A Season"

"Too Short A Season" is one of my most favourite episodes ...

I know of noone that really hates it. It's a sturdy 1st season episode. The make-up is hilarious now but it's not that bad tested on the era and I actually think Rohner did well. OK, it's all 80s daytime TV acting but I think he hits his marks.

I always think it was a pity that if they were going to have a geriatric Admiral, they didn't make him Admiral Garrovick (from TOS). It would be an elegant, understated way to connect to TOS without that angle smothering or hijacking the episode.

Clunky large wheel chair box technology has actually regressed since the days of Captain Pike. I coudn't buy it.

When I first saw this episode, all I could think of was how much the admiral's (hover)wheelchair was a rip off of Professor X's gold wheelchair from the xmen cartoon from 1992. As I got older, I realized this episode of TNG predates the xmen cartoon I previous mentioned.

Still, did TNG rip off the style from the xmen comics of the time? Or did the xmen cartoon play an homage to TNG?

While I think the episode overall is pretty unremarkable, one thing that I did like was that it was one of only a couple of stories in the TNG's run - "Pen Pals" being the only other one I can remember off-hand - where characters actively try to use loopholes to keep to the letter of the Prime Directive while intervening, instead of either fanatically obeying it at all costs or just disregarding it entirely. Somehow, it seemed a bit more real that way.

Face it, a lot of TNG episodes came directly from the cheese factory, and this is no exception.

They never can get old age makeup right. It's more than wrinkles. There's fat deposit lessening and muscle changes and what not.
