Why Spore Drive may not work in the future

Nah, I have an art degree, I'm just not completely scientifically illiterate.

1. The 23rd century Omega incident referenced in Voyager devastated the "network" irretrievably. Or,

2. The network gains, or already possesses a kind of consciousness. It decides, collectively, to block it's use as a means of transwarp jump system.

I get the feeling the spore drive may still be in use in the 24th century, but is very rare and only section 31 uses it.

I'm not so sure I agree. I have a feeling the Spore Drive is DSC's "Genesis Device...":

A game-changing technology that could be used for good, but has several "moral implications" associated with its use...and therefore will be shelved entirely.

Section 31 doesn't care about moral implications
Perhaps not, though I think it's more that they are willing to bend and break principles behind the scenes when the existence of the Federation is threatened. Normally they don't have to. Starfleet does just fine on its own. But they also haven't been shown, apart from the Kelvin-verse, as having enough resources to have their own ships. They manipulate and nudge and whisper in the right ears, maybe even assassinate when The Sisko won't do it for them.

At this point, I think it highly unlikely that DSC is a "Section 31" story.

It's "unique in its stupidity?" That's an engaging and intelligent position to take. Thank you.

For you to ignore such magical constructs as
Red Matter
Protomatter
Universal Translators
Transporters (and all the things we've seen transporters do, like de-age people, send people to an alternate universe, split people into good and evil, etc)
Genesis Devices
etc etc etc
...ilustrares your bias.

Isn't this twice you've tried to lecture me on the plausibility of scientific theories and realities? I'm assuming you have some kind of science credentials besides watching the Science Channel and reading Neil Degrasse Tyson books?

You forgot - Humanity creating a Utopia and every Human being eliminating racism and bigotry in 350 years...<--- Given the length and nature of recorded Human history; Star Trek fans actually believe this tenet of Berman era Star Trek believable?

You make a fair point, as always sir.

Obvious reason is that tardigrade spore fusion is stupid. The writers totally respect the audience and don't want to embarrass themselves by letting this travesty to ever be referred back to their pens. They know we are sitting at home thinking.. those floaty spores and that poor oversized bed bug do NOT clever science fiction make.

What were they thinking? I can just picture the think tank scene from the writers room. What we need is some... bacteria AND a tardigrade.. ooh make it big! How about some bats wings and eye of newt? Nah let's not push our luck.

Maybe finding more tardigrades scuttled the project for future Trek? Or maybe Ripper breaks free and eats the crew?

Q takes it away from the known universe, because it would make life in the universe so much more mundane without the adventure of travel.

Well Captain Lorca seems to have a lot of power getting Micheal recruited just like that. It could be that NCC 1030 is a backup research ship that section 31 controls while the discovery is the main ship.
