Why so much love for Arex?

That's actually kinda cool. I'd say it's not quite there, but it's damned close. Can you imagine if they'd slipped something like that in somewhere in TOS-R? Skin tone is a bit off.

Yeah, the fact Arex was one of the first non-human characters after Spock is probably one reason. Me, I always wished we could see more of the Andorian who replaced Spock in the timeline where Spock died young.

Stargate Infinity and the Star Wars animation have shown me that a lack of modern animated Trek is probably a good thing.

That said, I saw some potential in the script for Star Trek: Final Frontier. Not sure what they were thinking with that hammerhead/winged Enterprise

If you like ST novels, then you must read "Crucible: Spock" (lots of new Thelin stuff!) by David R George III, and even more about him in "The Chimes at Midnight" (in the Myriad Universes volume, "Echoes and Refractions") by Geoff Trowbridge.

I always assumed the alien on the Kelvin was the same species as Arex but I haven't seen anyone else who thought so.

I've heard good stuff about both novels. Right now, I have a number of books to get through first though, including the original version of A Clockwork Orange, The End of Wall Street by Roger Lowenstein, and Oprah by Kitty Kelley.
