why so little blue uniforms??

So blue uniforms were actullay a little more on the gree side like a teal color??

Wow.... That's heavy....

I always liked to think that there were two shades of blue, Teal for Medical and Blue for Science and maybe even a third shade of blue for Services. That way you can tell what Blue shirt is in what section.

Voyager...dunno as that was suppose to be a science ship. Then again, they probably did have one, but he/she wasn't a member of the senior staff (and subsequently, a main cast member).

I always figured that since Janeway had started out in the sciences, she was the main science officer on the bridge, because that had originally been her expertise.

That is odd how many blues there actually were, considering how dedicated the Federation is to expanding its knowledge

My thinking exactly. There were definitely slight color differences to be seen when, for example, Bashir and Jadzia stood side by side. Bashir's was more of a blue whereas Jadzia's uniform was more "greenish".

In earlier episodes Voyager's Doctor had very bluish uniform, but I think they changed it to the greenish one, though.

I think I read somewhere that the blue dye used in the uniforms changed over time - the more they had to clean/wash them, the more often the color faded. I also wonder if the series regulars had uniforms made out of a different material than the extras, and so the color looked different. Look at any of the main characters in blue (like, say, Crusher) compared to any of the background extras.

Regarding Data, he was originally going to be the science officer. However, at the time, no one knew what color Data would be. They did screen tests with different makeup to see what color looked best. Once they settled on the light gold makeup, they realized that they didn't like him in a blue uniform. They had to create the "operations officer" job title for him in order to put him in a gold uniform.
