Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal down?

Huh? When did he say this?

Re: Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal dow

(Silent Enemy - deleted scenes on DVD)

> Hoshi suggests psychiatric treatment for Archer when he insists she spend valuable time discovering Reed's favourite food during a crisis.

> Hoshi suggests psychiatric treatment for Reed when he refuses an invitation from a cute Asian hottie to come to her quarters.

> Whilst suffering from an alien disease, Lieutenant Reed mistakes Hoshi's large round head for an orbiting moon he can use to test Enterprise's weapons. Can the emergency adoption of Starfleet's new 'beehive' hairstyle prevent Hoshi's head from being obliterated by a handheld tactical nuclear missile?

Just because you don't know how to exploit a huge forehead sexually don't take it out on the girl.

Re: Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal dow

Odon, I honestly don't recall where I read that he was playing Reed as gay, but I distinctly remember he was quoted as saying that. Possibly he said it at a convention. Possibly the quote was made up and I am totally wrong.

Like Norm MacDonald said on SNL regarding gays in the British military "which brings up an interesting point...just how do you tell when a British person is gay?"

Re: Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal dow

I always liked "Continental people have sex to keep warm at night, we British have hot waterbottles."

You know, it's always possible he had already arranged for birthdaysex in his room that night with some other girl, and he wasn't sure if he could talk a prude like Hoshi Sato into a threesome? Serious, is there a better pick up line which isn't a lie or having something to do with money?

Well, it's pretty much universally accepted that Reed was gay.

Still, I would have gone for it. Even despite Hoshi's giant head.

Why not?

The Reed being gay idea goes totally against many things Reed said. I.e. his letters to women in Shuttlepod One, his talk of T'Pol's bum, his dreams of making out with T'Pol (also in Shuttlepod One) and his dissappointment at finding out he never married in the S3 episode where they are visited by the NX-01 from the future.

Sorry, I don't buy it.

Re: Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal dow

I thought Malcolm and Hoshi would've made a cute couple. Alas, it was not to be.

I don't think Malcolm was written as being gay, despite anything Dominic said about how he played him.

He was heavily in denial. Everyone could see it but him!

Re: Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal dow

I always took that scene where he turns her down to be nothing more than a display of arrogance. "Oh, silly girl, I'm too good for you."

Re: Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal dow

I do that it all the time. Turn down a girl, and then you fall in love with her a couple weeks later and it's too late because she was terribly insulted.

There are people that are closeted and go through relationships with women because of social considerations, religious concerns, etc.

Example:

When I was in High School the Quarterback of our football team dated and hooked up with every girl on the cheerleading squad (infact he got the head cheerleader pregnant). When he started college he came out.

My ex-girlfriend's dad recently came out (and his daughter is 22).

Re: Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal dow

If he was gay, and annoyed by his huge gayness, why wouldn't she have been an exemplary beard? I mean it's not like she was doing anything else, or anyone else?

Re: Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal dow

Wait a minute, what episode was that and somehow I doubt very much Reed was Gay, for one he was always gazing at the women, I mean the T'Pol ass conversation for one

Re: Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal dow

He turned Hoshi down because he was hoping T'Pol would indecently propose him instead. Sadly it never happened :(

Re: Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal dow

The episode in question is "Silent Enemy."

Do you know if either of them was inspired by Lt. Reed?

People, this is the future.

People don't have sex.
