Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal down?

Guy Gardener

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
"I have a hot plate."

Sure, she was stumbling over words trying to be a master spy, but he misunderstood the little hottie to mean that he was to come over to her place, cook up a romantic meal and then ravage her, y'know "sexually"... AND THEN HE SAID "NO"?

WTF??!!

What was going on with his character in season one? Would he have said "Yes" later on? Especially after E Squared after he found out he died a virgin.

Well, it's pretty much universally accepted that Reed was gay.

Still, I would have gone for it. Even despite Hoshi's giant head.

Why not?

Hoshi was HOT!!!! She's still hot in Women's Murder Club (Which has a couple of my favorite actresses, Linda, Angie Harmon, and Laura Harris).

I don't buy the Reed being gay idea. I couldn't possibly fathom why he would turn Hoshi down though.

Would you accept an invitation to dinner from a woman who goes running through the hallways stabbing a carving knife wildly through the air and shouting, ``CARROTS!''?

Dating someone you work with is always a bad idea. Dating a subordinate is also a bad idea and sometimes against regulations... BUT LOOK AT HER! DAMN the regulations!

If monogamous couplings and groupings would have been encouraged, then that would have cut down on the number of rooms needed for living quarters... Which means that Archer would be able to pick up new crew next time he was on Earth(COWBOYWORLD!)...

So you're saying that not only always love letters he was sending to girls in Shuttle Podd One when he thought he was dying, and never considered shagging tucker for warmth were CODE? They were all blokes? They were all blokes and Ruby must have been a tranny. ;)

I just don't buy the homosexual angle, well, more homosexual than any one who's been to an English Boarding school. Berman is afraid of the homo's in his fiction, so it's impossible to think that he'd offer a valentines so underhandedly to the gay community, which is so easily and quickly taken back... Unless he knew those two birds he and Trip where tring to pull were in fact dudes!!!

Reed was too by-the-book to take Hoshi up

..until she got promoted! ;)

I believe it was Benjamin Franklin Pierce who said "Yes we live our lives by the book too, it's just that our book has pictures of naked people playing volley ball in it."

I suppose he'd be a better soldier if he was sexually frustrated.

He would have been frustrated for a damn long time - promotions didn't come easy on that ship if TATV and Twilight are to be believed (in the latter, Tucker and Reed were captains and Hoshi was just getting her Lieutenant bars!!??)

Re: Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal dow

He couldn't possibly have accepted her offer. After all, that would imply that the characters on ENT were actually adults instead of oversized teenagers.

Re: Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal dow

I think Reed was gay too .. and there's nothing wrong with that!

The actor playing Reed has stated that he was playing the character as gay, but I never picked up on it while watching the episodes. Also, Hoshi was not actually making a pass at him, right? Or did I misunderstand that scene.

For the record, Hoshi is the hottest actress to ever appear in Star Trek. It is a well documented fact in my diary : )

So how come he never said he thought Trip had a nice bum? ;)

Re: Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal dow

Reed was upset in E2 that his other self never found a woman to marry. Then at the end of the scene, he randomly askes a woman to sit down with him.

That's SO gay!

Re: Why on Earth did Reed turn Hoshi's indecent proposal dow

Short answer - Reed has no balls.

Long answer - Reed lost his balls in an accident during a live photonic torpedo test. This therefore diminished his sex drive.

Well as much as the actor may have wanted to play him gay the writers obviously don't and he can't ignore the lines he is given. In the writers minds Reed wasn't gay but the actor still played him that way anyway!
