Why not just leave...

2 of 10

Captain
In "Futures End" while Chakotay and B'Elanna are in the D-Flyer to beam out Starling, B'Elanna asks Chakotay what if we can't get back, we will have to get jobs...ect. My question is if Voyager was flight ready, why not just leave. If memory serves me correct in the 21st century, there were several warp capable species at that time, including the Vulcans.

If I were stuck in the 21st century, I don't think I would just hang around Earth waiting for something to happen, I would just leave and see what I what I could do either on my own or seek out advanced species to help me out.

What would you do ??

Anything they would do would drastically change history. If they made first contact with the Vulcans early, everything changes. If everything changes, historical events would happen differently, millions of people would never be born. Most of us can trace our pasts to some major historical event if we go back far enough. Such as for me, my maternal grandfather may never have met my maternal grandmother if not for for World War II.

What if they pissed off some advanced race and they found out they came from Earth, could be bye bye Earth.

Just hanging around Earth could/would change the timeline also, this could be a situation where you're dammed if you do and you're dammed if you don't. One last point to ponder, where would you hide Voyager, on the moon??

In Future's End, upon reaching Earth, Voyager should've done the 'ol "loop around the sun" trick to put themselves back in the 24th Century! Problem solved!

Minor detail, but they were not in the Delta Flyer - it had not been built yet. This was season 3. The Delta Flyer wasn't built until.... season 5 I believe.

Well they needed to find Starling but yes after that was done this would remain an option. I guess you could look at it as two people playing a game of "What If". ;)

Why not go to a nearby or unexplored system in the alpha quadrant, put everyone in stasis and just felling wait it out till it becomes the right year.

Damn time travel stories treat going back to future like a destination, and not an inevitability.

I don't see why not which means we'll have to file this solution under the "It will end the show early" category. ;)

Fat lot of good the Temporal Fleet did to clean up the timeline! They probably would have let Voyager be stuck and do what both T'Pol and Scotty did, which was exactly what Starling did - shill patentable technology for cash. (Velcro and transparent aluminum, respectively).

Not to mention the effect you have on the world just by being in traffic!

(Though the idea of velcro being alien technology is funny)!

Just to correct you it wasn't T'Pol. It was her second foremother (her great great grandmother I think) T'Mir.

sure but they're trying to make the least amount of impact as possible. being out in space would definitely alter the quadrant's history more. by staying put and inconspicuous they are hoping to minimize their impact.

there's really no place to hide voyager unless you bury it deep. you don't want people finding it at any cost. they would probably have to destroy it.

Right :techman: Besides, T'Pol is much hotter than T'Mir, who looked totally different! ;)

Well, things were happening too fast, what with Starling rushing off in the Aeon (timeship), but if Janeway didn't mind messing with the timeline a little, she could have beamed up some Paramount execs and sent them back with enough material to ensure a bright future for Trek.

And don't tell me Trek didn't exist within the story. There was a TOS action figure on Rain Robinson's desk.

Hmm...yeah; thanks very much. It's small and blurry; I want to see it better. I'll have to get out my DVD's and make a screen cap.

I hadn't heard that bit of trivia; I'll have to check that out.

That Rain Robinson website was great! I've visited Janet's Voyager site many times but haven't seen that one before.
