Why no ongoing Han Solo comic?

Why is it they have SW comics for just about every era and character except the one regarded by most fans as the single coolest one ever—freakin Han Solo?

I couldn’t care less about the “Old Republic” or the “Rogue Squadron” or the “Knights of the Whatever”. I just want to see some new stories involving Han, Chewie, and the Falcon, dammit. Hell, even a Jedi Luke comic would be more interesting than what’s on the shelves now.

It seems you almost have to go back to the early Marvel comics of the 80s to see any stories involving those iconic characters (that isn't some alternate universe thing). Has Lucas put the kibosh on the comic companies using them or something? Or is there really not enough interest?

Meh, there's far more to the Star Wars universe than Han, Luke, Leia, and the gang. The novels already focus on those three too much as it is. I prefer the comics' generally telling stories about other people and periods in the setting.

Dark Horse had an ongoing about Luke, Leia, and Han during their prime: Rebellion. It was cancelled because no one was buying it!

That said, I would buy a Han Solo ongoing (in trade, of course) if it had the right creative team. I enjoyed the Han Solo and the Hollow Moon of Khorya standalone Dark Horse did.

(That said, if you enjoy old school adventures... the Knights of the Old Republic ongoing was as old school as they came. A group of misfits thrown into a situation bigger than they can imagine on a crappy spaceship? You can't get more A New Hope than that.)

The now-cancelled Star Wars Tales anthology comics had a ton of Han stuff, although some of it was not meant to be taken seriously. Also, you might want to check out the Chewbacca comic miniseries that came out some time ago, it's mainly flashbacks by the characters after Chewbacca's death in the NJO book series.


I think the reason the comics are mainly side-stories or don't feature the principal characters is that they don't want to step on the novels continuity which features these characters all the time. Although, Star Wars continuity is kind of being unraveled lately, so we'll see.
