Why No Love For The Discovery or the Orville?

USS Triumphant

Vice Admiral

I mean, we have two great new ships in the Trek family, and I haven't seen *anyone* doing any art with them in here, yet.

I'd make an offering, but I don't think anyone needs Stick Figure Trek. ;)

Well, McFarlane would emphatically disagree that The Orville is part of the Trek family, but in the More 3d Printing thread, he did an Orville.

If I ever do a "Discovery", it will either be from 2001 or it will be McQuarrie's vision of the TNG Enterprise (or was it for TMP (Phase II?). :)

I'd personally love to model The Orville, and I probably will, but I have too much on my plate at the moment. I have two (self-imposed) commissions for TrekBBSers going on now.

I'm thrilled and amused that while Scribble pointed out that MacFarlane might say the Orville isn't a Trek ship, no one here so far has actually made that argument their own. :D
None of the above actually. The Ken Adam/Ralph McQuarrie Enterprise concept was for Star Trek: Planet of the Titans.
True, but regarding the design we ended up with for the -D, I can definitely see why @Scribble said that.
There are several reasons why I dislike the Discovery but the main one is that it isn not as nice looking as LordSarvain's design..

I would love to see @LordSarvain or someone take that design and modify it the minimal amount to incorporate the spinning saucer and other spinning aspects of Discovery, and see what that looks like. :techman:

I suck at building ship exteriors and have been too busy with my own designs to sit down and work out some of the interiors of Discovery. There's a LOT of detail work going on there. I'd probably have an easier time with the Orville to be honest, but again, between moving and my own stuff, no time. Orville uses the clean, simple, but elegant designs that were around at the start of Next Gen so honestly I might give that a go first if I get around to it.

I do tend to crawl with my 3D work and the day job. ;)
