why no help from "Q"?

Sephiroth

Vice Admiral
Admiral
yup, Q, seems Janeway did him a few favors, buy why not atleast ask him to tell starfleet the partculars, it wasn't until like season 5 or 6 that voyager sent the doctor back to the AQ to tell starfleet that the ship was still out there

Makes it less interesting knowing that starfleet doesnt have a clue whether Voyagers still out there or not... I used to ask the same question myself, why not just send them home? Why not help them out more? Ah well... they can't have everything done for them!

In terms of story, Q is better as a threat than an ally. YOu don't give protags or their allies omnipotence, then there would be no conflict and no story.

In terms of the Voyager universe, Q expressed an interest in leaving them stranded. According to KRAD's novel Q & A, as part of a necessary action against the Borg, and yet another test of humanity.

In terms of character, I doubt Q would demean himself as messenger boy. One thing I always loved about his character was that he had tough love for humanity.

Still you'd think that being responsible for the birth of Q's child and saving the Continuum would earn some kind of reward.

I agree with this.

In Q2 (which was only a handful of eps from the end), Janeway flat out asks why he doesn't send them back. And his response was "I can't do everything for you," or something along those lines.

Seems pretty clear to me that Q was already aware of how things would end up - i.e. that Voyager would ultimately get home in just 7 years (ignoring that other timeline), and that in doing so they'd leave a huge mark on the galaxy. :bolian:

(I wonder though, what did Admiral Janeway think of Q? Seething resentment would be my guess.)

I think that Q is the kind of being who only helps if he feels for it, if he's in a good mood, if he likes the captain and the crew or if he gets something out of it.

Since Q is not actually evil, more some sort of cynical over-being with a rather low opinions about mortal beings, I'm sure that he can give them a helping hand when he feels for it or create some obstacle for them, when he feels for it.

I think he liked Janeway and the Voyager crew in a way and could give them a helping hand now and then if necessary. But sending them home? No! That would have taken the fun out of it for him. I'm sure that he wanted to see if they could manage it by themselves.

Besides that, as someone pointed out. As the powerful being he is, with the ability of travelling in time, he probably did know that they would make it.

He should have sent them home, and then a year later snapped his fingers and stranded them again.

That would have been an awesome prank.

That would have been an amazing three parter. Halfway through the first episode, Q clicks his fingers and Voyager is at earth. During the rest of the first episode, all of the second and a third of the third episode. We see the Voyager crew adjusting to life back home

Only for Q to send them back to the Delta Quadrant, with their memories intact. Whatta killer. Would have been interesting to see how the crew mentally manage to recover from that

I suspect Tuvok's mental control classes would become rather full

In "Q Who" Picard begged Q for help, I never seemed to occur to Janeway to even ask Q for help. She never asked him.

The one time I remember her bringing the subject up to him, it was in a very joking, kidding kind of way.

the interesting thing is that he helped Voyager shave a few years off its journey but didn't want to set a bad example for his son by doing all of the work for them

Q: Oh, before I leave. (gives her a PADD) I did a little homework for you. Consider it a thank you for everything you did for Junior.
JANEWAY: Not that I don't appreciate it, but this will only take a few years off our journey. Why not send us all the way?
Q: What sort of an example would I be setting for my son if I did all the work for you?

So Q...wanted them to find the hub?! Whoa.

You know, I never thought about that before. It does make sense though. He's able to make up for introducing the Federation to the Borg by having Voyager deal them a crippling blow, all without bringing the wrath of the Continuum down on himself for meddling in galactic affairs. Crafty... :techman:

Q was willing to send Voyager home...if only Janeway would have sex with him. When she refused, he put a curse on her so she could only have sex with holograms.

The second Q snaps his fingers=no more Voyager series. It was a studio decision, nothing more.
