Why Neelix?

Really they should have got home half way through season 7 an evey one would have/should have gotten their own episodes about how it was to admit the journey was over.

I really, really liked that Idea.

I liked Neelix too. I really had wished he made it to earth.

Was it a bad ending for him, do you think, Lynx? It was a bit of a shock not to have the crew return together. But I thought it kind of tied together many aspects of his character and aspirations.

Agreed.

The show was about going "home", but what home was there on Earth for Neelix? Once Voyager got "home", the crew would split and go their separate ways. There was no "Kes" to set up housekeeping with, and he hadn't found anyone to replace her, unless you count Janeway and I really don't think Neelix's luck was running THAT good.

By finding that impossible asteroid with those Talaxians on it, they were able to give Neelix the choice offered to Voyager's crew in "The 37's", and unlike the Voyager crew he took his only chance at truly finding a home. When Voyager left that planet 6 years ago, they were traveling closer to home. But had Neelix turned down this opportunity, he would have continued to travel further from his home.

Neelix finally did something just for him. He left Voyager for a chance at a family that loved him for being himself. A Talaxian man, husband, father.
Well said.:techman:

Double well said!

I like Guy's idea a lot, too. Yet another Voyager what-might-have-been.

I like that idea as well. They all get home and we get to see what happens when they do. Then in the last few episodes of the series, Species 8472 could be headed to Earth bent on its destruction (obviously the council ignored the recommendation of those 8472s who were masquerading as humans and agreed to a cease fire). Because Voyager has experience with them, the crew is reassembled and leads the Federation fleet against them. An ending like this would have created a bit of continuity and excitement leading into the finale. And Janeway would've come out saving Earth, instead of destroying an entire timeline in a selfish move to save Seven! ;)

Eh, it would've been too expensive.

They should've just moved past the "how did they get home?" thing and have the finale just already have them home (for several years) and explore what happened to them afterwards and what they're doing now. Basically, "Endgame" only the future bits are the only bits.

It's interesting, I just don't think each character needs a whole episode to themselves. I just don't see characters like Harry, Tuvok & Chakotay having enough material to fill a full 45 mins worth of story.

Tuvoks story could be hilarious, in so that no one on Vulcan noticed he was gone because they are so long lived, and nothing had changed.

Meanwhile in Harry's case we find out that his mommy died a year before he graduated. It's just a question of if he's crazy or he's playing people for sympathy and holorations.

The only reason that any of them might not deserve an earth episode, reacclimatizing, is if the writers hadn't tried hard enough for the previous 6 and a half years to stress how much these people want to get home

John Crichton got home to earth with half a season to spare, and then he figured out what was following him, much like the Galacticans took account in the year of our lord 1980 that there was a Cylon armada in their wake patiently waiting to see where they wanted to roost.

That is so brilliant, I can't even...

Interesting; then I wonder who called about the clarinet.

Thing is, when you think about it most of the crew may not have wanted to get home all THAT bad. I mean, if they were willing to sign on for deep space missions to begin with (and we know from TOS these missions can last for at least 5 years) then they were already aware they wouldn't be seeing home for a long time. What about the crew who had no family to begin with? Tuvok knew that his family would still be alive in 75 years, the Maquis members knew they were fighting a losing battle (and later that they had lost) so they may have not been all that intent on going home fast, etc.

Crichton had a family, and was a 20th Century human who had never imagined he'd be lost in deep space. He's a totally different animal from 24th Century folk who were used to living in space away from home for years.

I kinda have to agree.
Voyager in that aspect mirrored LOST, where everyone (but Janeway & Tuvok) had better lives in the DQ than they did in the AQ. It's kinda why Neelix joined them. His life sucked before finding Voyager. Had he not gone with them, he might not have ever found his own family to make him want to stay.

By Talaxian standards, before Voyager, Neelix was probably Indiana Jones.

He lied and cheated (out thought and out played) to power to get the end around and win out the day.

GO NEELIX!

But all of Neelix's wheeling and dealing got him trapped in Kazon space as a scrap dealer. He was better off on VOY since his last job was the epitome of dead-end.

Is that why he was living in trash when they found him?
