Why "Kick-Ass" Will Be The "Inglourious Basterds" of Superhero Movies

Re: Why "Kick-Ass" Will Be The "Inglourious Basterds" of Superhero Mov

I try and let a talented filmmaker transport me and not let my expectations get in the way. Which is why I love the Star Wars prequels.

Gee, I care so little about Star Wars - I like the first two, like I like a lot of things - that I pretty much went into TPM with no expectations other than that the trailer looked really cool.

The prequels bored my ass off; I've only seen "Attack Of The Clones" on DVD. The possibility of Darth Vader in the third one lured me back in, to no good end.

I understand film trailers are commercials designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator and get as many people as possible to go see a movie. Trailers do one of two things, usually; misrepresent the movie or give the whole damn thing away.

Now that's opening a can of worms.

So, by not expecting 'not shit', you were happy to get shit? Cause all I was hoping was that the prequels wouldn't be shit.

Matthew Vaughn himself I believe has described "Kick-Ass" as being "Spider-Man on crack" so that is where Dan got that line from. I'm surprised that so many people are judging this movie as being superficial without really understanding the back stories of the characters in question (Big Daddy and Hit Girl) or what Mark Millar intended these characters to be. For those of you who are having a problem with the amount of violence in this movie...it's been toned down considerably from what is in Book One of the comic. The comic is really a social commentary as I've pointed out in previous attempts in threads on violence in media and the amount of it we allow our children be exposed to. There is more to Kick Ass than meets the eye but I give up trying to defend it because people are free to view it how they like. I nor JacksonArcher is attempting to ram our views on it to other people. Just trying to say try to have an open mind about it. I have read the comic book and just bought Book One in hardcover and have been a fan of it for some time and looking foward to Book Two coming out later thsi year which is called "Balls Out" .

Mark Millar writing a social commentary on violence in media? Kinda funny for a guy who so often uses shock value violence to juice up his comics.
