Why Kai...

How could Kai Winn have been fooled by Gul Dukat. She spent many years under the occupation of Bajor, she saw Dukat probably at least once a week. And then this Bajorian, comes to DS-9 WHO Looks like and sounds like Dukat with a little plastic surgery, and she totally falls for him.

I have all 7 seasons of DS-9 and this is probably the most unrealistic story arc I ever saw. Even her assistant saw through Dukats plans, and when he goes to expose it, he goes alone. One would think that dealing with Dukat he would have brought several Bajorian Security guards with him, just in case.

Any thoughts on this matter...

I loved the idea of Kai Winn and Gul Dukat scheming away together, but it wasn't a great ending to both of their character arcs, considering where they both had been at various points throughout the series. Pairing them together had such great potential but it just wasn't totally realised.

I did like the episode where Winn stabbed Solbar and his blood made the Kosst Amojan readable. She's found out Dukat is, well, Dukat, and she's killed her aide, but she's put herself into a position where she isn't going to turn down this newfound power the Pah-Wraiths have laid out for her. IMO the story peaked there and never really got going again, ending in disappointment in What You Leave Behind.

Well we don't know if Winn ever met Dukat at all. She wasn't high up in the religious chain and she did spend time in a prison. She probably saw pictures sure.

Secondly she was thrown off-guard by the vision that the Pagh-Wraiths sent her.

I kind of always assumed that Winn probably did know, deep down. But this guy showed up after she was offered the enormous power she'd always dreamt of, and a direct connection to Gods. She was willing to ignore the truth until Solbar forced her to face it.

And when the Prophets refused to allow her an Orb encounter, she became so blinded by desperation that she was willing to do ANYTHING.

Yes the Pagh-Wraiths were finally offering her the power she had always hoped her Prophets would grant her. She couldn't refuse it. She was always driven by ambition, not evil. It's just that when ambition resides in someone who is amoral, the resemblance to evil is striking.

I was always angry with B&B for not bringing Kai Opaca back to depose Kai Winn. That would have been great continuity and a wonderful end to the series!

She was initially of course- she thought he was a farmer or something.

But that's sort of what we're saying - she almost certainly knew exactly who he was, deep down. But ignored it because going along with him was getting her everything she'd always wanted.

You wouldn't think a Bajoran could stoop so low... then again... blah. I'm a bit glad Opaka didn't come back- it gave her something bigger to do with herself that may have been different than struggling against her own people that needed her help but were too bitter and suspicious at the time. Bajor needed to learn to stand on its feet, to be rational despite more loss, and help from the Federation- and her loss gave them that.
