Why isn't the SGC using Jumpers?

So they got a big cache of Jumpers from Atlantis and other places, including the other city ship they found, so why doesn't each BC-304 have one or two jumpers on board as standard compliment? Why doesn't the SGC use them to defend Earth, they can cloak so they will never be seen by anyone on Earth, but they can be used for travel, or for scouting, or go off world for scouting and stuff since it can cloak. I would like to see the use of Jumpers more from the SGC side of things.

I think they have at least ROOM for one at the SGC. When they were testing out the Midway gate bridge system, they brought a jumper into the Earth gate room and parked it in facilities they'd crafted out of the silo above the room. At least until they'd finished the Midway station, they used jumpers in a limited fashion to get back and forth.

Anyway, while it would make sense and be cool to have puddle jumpers around, it's probably a matter of also maintaining and supplying them. We don't know what they run on, plus they use a finite supply of drones for weapons. IMO, it wold make more sense for them to build their own version of a puddle jumper to use as needed for recon, team support, and so on. It would probably be a few years away at least, but with the Asgard core aboard the Odyssey they probably have the technology.

True we don't know what powers them, but Atlantis is able to use them all the time without problems. Perhaps they just have to be recharged. It hasn't stopped Atlantis from using them though and maintaining them, they seem to be able to do repairs on them. They are pretty robust to begin with.

Granted, the ones they had were sitting around gathering dust for thousands of years and were usable minutes after being reactivated.

Still, I think it would be more prudent NOT to rely on alien technology too much. When WWII ended, it's not like the Allied powers jumped all over their remaining German Me-262 fighter jets and V-1 rockets. They used some of each for research, but ended up reverse-engineering the technology into their own designs. Much like the F-302 fighters being reverse-engineered from death gliders, I'm sure it would make sense to have an Earth-built jumper that they know EXACTLY how it works.

There are, what, thirty-some SG teams, now? Plus at least a half-dozen squadrons of F-302s. I'm sure they do, in fact, make regular use of a Jumper or two at the SGC, and we just never saw them. Indeed, I wouldn't be surprised if they had an SG team now specifically dedicated to studying Ancient technology made up of people with the ATA gene.

That all depends on Rodney's maintenance schedule which as we saw in The Prodigal isn't all that dependable. :techman:

In Atlantis' The Return part II, McKay mentioned that Dr. Lee was in charge of 'the jumper project' so someone is working on it, unfortunately it's Dr. Lee...

The whole ship has NOT been explored, give it time! I am sure they will find more surprises onboard. Perhaps they will find something better than a puddle jumper, maybe a transporter device or more condensed version of a puddle jumper.

SGC, not SGU ;)

And there's no particular reason they should show up on SGU either, we're talking about a ship that is older than Atlantis and more primitive in technology - gates older than even the Milky Way network. I would not be surprised if the jumper had not been invented yet.

The time jumper simply disappeared after season 8 iirc, would have been nice to see it appear now and against in 9 and 10. I guess the excuse would be that it was taken to Area 51 and taken to pieces in the hope that they could built their own version of the puddle jumper, much like the 302.

I loved that Dr. Lee was the one Scientist that was possessed in the Pilot episode by the ancient comm device.

Maybe they decided after their last use of it, that they'd lock it up and make sure they only used it if they really, really, really, really had to use it. Time travel is messy :p

The time travel device seemed to be an add on to the jumper. They should have destroyed it after they found the ZPM but the jumper probably would be still usable.
