Why is your favourite captain as such?

Fleet Captain
My most liked captains are Picard and Sisko. Picard because he has a good head, and can reason out situations to a tee. He also has a lot of wisdom, and understands the root of how people and species behave.

Sisko, well he's just a dude. He takes no crap from anybody, and nobody dares give him it. Even Worf was intimidated by him, and Worf is a hardened Klingon warrior. Sisko's persona makes one respect him, and look like a man who is in charge and and lead from the front. If anything, Sisko was a better character in the later seasons since he was far more bold and badarse than in the earlier seasons.

I like Kirk. Why?

1. Picard got sucked into playing that game in "the Game" and this ultimately ruined Picard for me. The man allows this device to be brought on board, not only doesn't get it tested out for safety concerns, but gets hooked on it himself, finally needing Wesley Crusher to come save him. All of your wisdom and pomp and righteousness is meaningless; you got hooked on a game and Wesley had to save you.

2. Sisko not only wanted to kill innocent people while chasing that one guy, but then he threw away all humanity and morality and condoned the killing of innocent people blatantly stating he would do it all over again. He's like everything a Trek captain (indeed, a human being) shouldn't be. All of your posturing and oratory? meaningless. You threw away everything you stand for when the pressure was on, you showed your true colors.

3. Janeway altered the timeline in Endgame showing she'd metaphysically murder billions if not trillions if it suit her needs to do so. Everything you did and said; meaningless. One wonders just how many lives you took to further your own selfish agenda. The thought is staggering.

4. Archer ... Archer stole the warp coil from those one dude. I guess Archer wasn't all that bad. But Kirk wins anyway.

1. Picard- Logical, shows compassion towards his crew. Cultured. Diplomatic
2. Janeway- She cares
3. Kirk- Didn't play by the rules, didn't believe in un winnable situations (a good thing)
4. Sisko- Too hot headed, and annoyed me when he decided to go along with all the profit nonsene and still remain as captain of DS9. He shoudl have stepped down.
5. Archer- Too much mouth when dealing with other species, obsessed with his dog.

1. Janeway

She's got a sharp intellect. She's involved with her crew. She's not afraid to acknowledge when diplomacy will more than likely not work which keeps her from being in weird diplomatic enigmas. She's not afraid to fight. I like the fact that she's not willing to send her crew (away team etc) out to do something she's not willing to do herself.

2. Kirk

I like cowboys, and he's a space cowboy if ever I saw it. He's also got a sharp intellect, which is why he can do freaking awesome things like make computers implode in on themselves. He's not afraid to fight. He's willing to try diplomacy but doesn't lean on it as the only tactic to win. The reason he's not at the top of the list is because I have a preference to see more captain/crew involvement. I'm not talking about seeing the captain out there partying after hours. I just mean it's nice to see the captain at least know crewman's names.

3. Picard

I know what you're thinking, "You've just been ragging on him for using diplomacy too much." Yes, yes I have. But he was awesome at it. "The first rule of every Starfleet office is to the truth...". He's witty. He's charming. He doesn't fight well. I'm talking hand-to-hand combat. He's just awkward, and every time it happened (which was not often in the grand scheme of Trek), it just felt off. Picard was a diplomat, not a fighter. But, that's what he had Worf for, right?

4. Sisko

He was willing to do what no one wanted to do to win the war, and he was okay with that. I respect that. What I can't deal with is the whole Prophet thing. I think it actually took away from him as a Captain. When he was moody and such after Wolf 359 with his hatred of Picard, I really liked him better. I'm weird, I know.

5. The New Kirk

He's not cocky enough yet. I'm betting he'll move up this list as we see him more.

6. Archer

The word that comes to mind is "bumbling".
