Why Is Teal'c Still With The SGC?

Throughout the series, Teal'c often said that when the Jaffa were free of the Goa'uld he would leave the SGC and rejoin his people. And so he did one the Goa'uld were defeated at the end of S8. But then he rejoined the SGC in S9 because of the threat posed by the Ori and said he would stay until the Ori were defeated.

Now the Ori have been defeated. And yet, the two times we've seen him post Ark of Truth, he's still with the SGC. There's his brief cameo in Reunion where he says good-bye to Carter before she leaves to take command of Atlantis. The scene takes place at the SGC, and he's wearing his uniform. Then later on in Midway, although nothing is said directly, it is heavily implied that he is still with the SGC. And finally, in Continuum, we see him an active member of SG-1 in SG uniform.

So what's the deal? What's his excuse this time for staying at Earth? Hell, since SG-1's no longer in production, I would have thought it would make perfect since for him to leave Earth and start a new life on Chulak or something.

Maybe he felt he would be more useful helping the SGC than he would be trying to be a political leader.

Because the writers clearly don't know how to say good-bye to Teal'c. There's not much story logic keeping him with the SGC, but they know how to write Teal'c that way, so he stays that way. There's even less logic with Daniel Jackson. Now that the Ori have been defeated, why isn't he with Atlantis? (Keeping in mind I haven't seen season five yet)

Teal'c is a warrior not a statesman and I don't think he really totality fits with the other Jaffa, especially seeing as how easily they decided to follow the Ori after just being freed from the Gao'uld. Plus Chulak was attacked by the Ori at the start of the tenth season so I don't know if had a place to go live now.

Funny, but in Midway, Carter doesn't introduce him to Ronan as "Teal'c, SG1 teammember, she says, "Teal'c of the Jaffa" or something like that. That struck me as weird, but since nobody else mentioned it I never did either.
Plus he arrived, not in his SG1 uniform but his [tacky] Jaffa robe. Guess Silar forgot to put his uni in the laundry.

why exactly is Teal'c there if he's got so much else to do?

my theories are A) after the events of the season ten finale, he reconsidered and B) people want him around and it's easier to just randomly have him there than to spend time explaining a reason whether that reason is logical or not.

i think B is the real word reason but A works as an in-universe reason. after the season 10 finale, i couldn't blame him for wanting to hang out with his friends. i also couldn't blame him for wanting some time away from them either though!

It seems reasonable that he might just prefer living on Earth and working with the SGC. He has some pull with the leadership and gets more respect on Earth than he ever did amongst his own people.

Season 9-10 illustrated that he was clearly frustrated with the Jaf'fa leadership. After all those years with the Tau'ri he probably feels more at home with his Friends. The same appears to be true of Vala.

I actually think that its more surprising that more offworlders have not asked to live on Earth. Its the only planet in 3 galaxies that typically gets left alone. So much so that even a Gould could feel comfortable here.

I think in 200 the guy in that is a refugee so maybe there are aliens on earth we just don't know about.

He probably got split in two in some wacky adventure we wer'nt privy too, one went back to Tulac, and the other stayed on earth, working on getting a PI licence.

But to be fair, doesn't Atlantis' season with Carter in it postdate (in-universe) Continuum? After all at this point Carter has left SG-1 too so its possible SG-1 was disbanded when she left for Atlantis.
Maybe Teal'c doesn't fancy hanging out with a bunch of kiddies after spending 50+years with SG-1 and so doesn't stick around for the new team.

I assumed that Atlantis season 4 post-dated Continuum as well, but the first episode of season 5 has Carter saying she has to return to Earth because SG1 have been invited to witness the extraction ceremony of the last Ba'al clone - which, of course, was documented in Continuum.

I'd say that while Teal'c is still part of the SGC, he probably isn't an active member anymore. When he is needed he comes.

Because the Stargate writers saw what happened to Wolf in the TNG movies and didn't want to repeat that.

No, Continuum is after Atlantis's 4th season, during its 5th. The 5th season premiere has Carter returning to Earth because the Tok'ra had just captured Ba'al.

^Continuum was supposed to predate Atlantis' fifth season but someone high up insisted on the line about Ba'al to promote the movie.

There's some confusion in Continuum about Carter and Mitchell's rank insignia and the credits.

I think after Tealc spent all those decades living onboard the Daedalus class ship in 'unending' with his friends he decided his place was with them. I think living for what was it, like 60 to 70 years? onboard a ship can change a guys mind and way of thinking.

Good point, I think he is sticking around to make sure they don't make mistakes they made on the ship, or to make sure the couples that got together then, get together now.
