Why Is Nosferatu In ST Movies Now?

Tulin

Vice Admiral

Something another poster said here reminded me of a trend I have seen with the last two ST films. In NEM there was that bad alien guy who looked like Nosferatu and now in STXI we have Eric Bana playing a Romulan who also appears modelled on the classic vampire.

Not since the sucky Westmore days have we been hit so heavily over the noggin' with the idea of, "Oh he MUST be the bad guy because he looks all scary and like Nosferatu."

Before all the apologists come out to attack me, I AM looking forward to seeing the new film(a little less now after having seen the Michael Bay inspired trailer)but it was just an observation.

Well, he's a dude with pointed ears and forehead ridges.

Which makes him a Romulan.

He has some tattoos, which I've never associated with classic vampires or Count Orlock from "Nosferatu."

So what creates this clear and (suggested to be deliberate) resemblance? Simply the fact that he's bald?

Ridges?

I gotta go back and look at the trailer again.

I didn't think so...

Well, yeah Polaris.

OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY LET A NOSFERATU-LOOKING DUDE BE CAPTAIN OF THE ENTERPRISE!

AND THE ENTERPRISE... DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THAT FAUX NOVEAU MONSTROSITY

"Vengeance" is to tame as a word. Let's use something more biblical, m'kay?

How about "wrath"?

I didn't know that Nosferatu was a pointy-eared hobgoblin with tattoos. Huh, you learn something knew every day. ;)

Nero looks like a combination of the viceroy (with the staff and even talks like him) and Shinzon, the bald head and clothing, and even the inside of the ship looks a little like the Schimitar

No no no, the interior of the ship has a cobbled look. The Scimitar was very clearly manufactured, with tons of X's everywhere. Nero is far more of a working class sorta looking villian wheras the Remans are all shiny and aristocratically dressed. The only connection here is the Romulans (And maybe baldness, but TONS of villians have been bald).

Nero reminds me more of Dr. Nadir from Frankenstein Meets The Space Monster, than Count Orlock. I hear he's looking for some good breeding stock.

In defense of the original poster, the basic vibe I get from our (quite brief) look at Bana in XI really was quite similar to that I got from Shinzon. The very dark bridge, the baldness, the... well, I can't explain it, but I was actually coming onto this board to post the same thread: the new bad guy reminds me a lot of Shinzon.

That said, I am not complaining. The movie looks like it will be good, I have high hopes, and I don't mind the resemblance so much.
