Why is it a pair when it a single article?

Oh Gosh did we love our floggings  *wipes away a tear*
Pity they’ve done away with the practice in the Royal Navy. Of course, I suppose what the men do in their off-duty hours is their own business, eh?

I will confess to spending several seconds trying to figure out how I put my bra on...

my webcam is off, isn't it? :wtf:

I tend to use the word 'prison' on Trekbbs and other forums rather than try and choose between the gaol/jail spellings. I do see gaol as the more correct spelling, at least for me.

AFAIK gaol is ye olde fashioned way of spelling jail. "no one" calls it gaol these days, it's jail or prison. Gaol is only used for tourist places (such as a castle) that have some form of prison in them. Like Cork City Gaol.

I have just checked. On the New South Wales Corrective Services website only the gaol spelling is used. I have also found the spelling on other official government sites. So it would that in Australia 'gaol' is the official spelling though jail is far more often the spelling used by non-government sources and by the general public.

Anything non-obligatory is fine by me.

But the 'cat 'o nine tails' ~ I mean if it were a real cat by the time you'd finished grooming, you'd have no time to eat or sleep! Just unfair.

The whip however...

Honey ~ never! You lean into your bra. Never do it one at a time else you'll end up lopsided ;) True!
And nobody wants lopsided boobs.

I am more than happy to adjust any boobs that are misaligned. :)

Capn Flukie ~ you may have found a niche market there.
Your generosity is unbounded ~ as obviously is one boob.

Please let me see your website for advertising this much in demand facility :D

NO! :guffaw:

I think Prison is the more correct term these days in the UK as it's Her Majesty's Prison. What doesn't help for people learning English is that words/phrases can have different meanins in say English and American English.

i.e

To Table a motion, in English would mean to present it for consideration. I.e place it on the table. Whilst in American English it would mean to set aside the motion for later consideration. In English to do that we would Shelve the Motion, i.e take it off the table and place it on a shelf for later consideration.

That one is pretty odd, considering in America we would still say, "Let's put this on the table" to start talking about it.

<snip, sorry McLeod>
Put on, lay on, and place on all mean the same thing.

Oh, but when in England and you refer to a table one lays out the table, (candelabra essential), put's out the cutlery and the delicious spread of devine food and spends days wondering about where to place everyone. :mallory:

It's definately different!

*tongue firmly in cheek :D*

I prefer the American way, where every word is a synonym if you want it to be.
