Why is he bowing to a mayor?

If the above statement is true (which I'd bet the farm that it is) that he was bending down/over/inward to better hear the Mayor, then this is much ado about FUCKING NOTHING.

This would be the source of my frustration with our politics. I mean, I would be upset if the President were caught taking kickbacks for allowing illegal activities. I'd be upset if the President punched Natalie Portman in the face for no good reason (although I'd be much less upset if it were Snooki). I cannot, however, get upset over something as absolutely trivial as this. It's like the flag lapel pin issue. Anyone who made a serious issue over that needs to get some perspective, because they've lost it. The world is too difficult, they should find a nice cave and live their lives there.

Agreed. And on that note, the Nebraska Senator should be shot for taking a bribe to pass that healthcare bill (which I actually support) but I hate the inside stuff like this...paying of senators..

And if Nebraska doesn't have to pay its share, then isn't that against the law? An excise tax?

But back on topic..I think its just a slow news day.

Rob

THAT...PISSES...ME...OFF. There is a fine line between being a Patriot and being a Facist, and those who rabidly scream about the lapel flag pin (IMHO) cross right over into Facist territory. As I explained to my son, if you were of German heritage in the US when WWI broke out and didn't buy a War Bond, then you were a dirty Kraut who sympathized with the Kaiser. You were shunned, attacked, or even run out of town. Never mind the fact that maybe -- JUST MAYBE -- you didn't buy a War Bond because that money was used to feed your family.

I think we've yet to stick to our principles in this country. Every time there is a war, every time there is an outside threat, we immediately start curbing freedoms and becoming that which we decry. Look at our history, and it shows. So yeah, I get your frustration because I share it. I also feel this way because I watched "The Drumhead" the other night. Great episode.

^^ Principles and ideals don't change Human nature. It's a challenge to buck millions of years of evolution and thousands of years of social inertia to convince people to live up to the standards of the United States. Especially when so many people prefer the inertia....

Re: Why is he bowing to a mayor

Let me answer your questions truthfully and honestly. Maybe then we can find common ground. Or maybe not.

I believe his decisions as President have been idiotic. I realize he's an incredibly saavy politician. But you can be an intelligent person and still make idiotic choices.

Saying his decisions have been idiotic is fine. You don't need it in this situation obviously, but generally it's good to back up an opinion like that with some content that can be discussed or rebutted or else it leaves people few options but to make the discussion about you and your motivations for posting it.

Let me ask you though, you recognize that my avatar is in reference to Obama, don't you? If so, why did you not warn the poster earlier who tried to use it as a personal attack against me? Let's see if you play this one truthfully or if you spin it.
The only post I can find that fits your description is this. Is that what you're talking about?

If so, what's warnable about it? He doesn't say whether he's talking about you or about Obama, in which case he's agreeing with you. Am I supposed to read more into it than what's there and warn accordingly based on what I think he means? Because I'm sorry to say it but if we did that you would have been banned AGES ago. You're a master at getting in subtle trolling comments and insults that skirt just below the line of being warnable, and you've been doing it for years. Now you want me to punish someone else for possibly indirectly insulting you because of your avatar which is itself trolling?

If you don't want people giving you a hard time because of your avatar, I would suggest not having the word "idiot" in it, or anything else inflammatory for that matter. I have little sympathy for people who provoke comments and then whine to the mods about someone rising to the bait.

Then I submit that you don't know the definition of either socialist or radical.

Every first world nation, including the imaginary entirely capitalist utopia you clearly idealize America as, has some degree of state ownership or regulation of industry and resource allocation. It nowhere near rises to the level of being mainly socialism here, and Obama has proposed nothing which would transform the US into a primarily socialist economy. Not even universal health care would have pushed us anywhere near being primarily socialist.

It's a wonder how all those thriving European socialist-capitalist hybrid countries even manage to get by with such an evil economic system, much less provide basic services to their people like universal health care which is apparently too hard for us to do here in the good ole' always #1 USA.

"Radical" socialism would be 100% public ownership of the means of production and allocation of resources, would it not? Obama has proposed nothing even remotely like that.

Who are we subservient to because of a bow?

If we're "subservient" to anyone, it's because of our foreign debts and dependence on foreign oil, both of which were mostly and massively escalated under... wait for it... Republican presidents right up to GWB! This is not to say Democrats and Obama haven't done their share too, but you only seem to care about one side of that coin.

What enemy of the US has Obama "befriended"? He's not hanging out with his buddy Ahmadinejad at the Peach Pit. Diplomacy and seeking to avert war is sound governance, especially when you're already involved in two wars in the region. They're being watched constantly to make sure their nuclear program isn't progressing regardless, so it's not like they're getting away with anything. Was Nixon wrong when he went to China?

Obama hasn't reduced the number of strikes against al Qaeda and Taliban fighters in Afghanistan and Pakistan since Bush, and has actually increased them I believe. So, where does the letting our enemies have time to "plan and execute their operations" part come in there?

Do you have a link from a reputable source for that one hour comment?

Maybe he started blabbing away about his mission, his leaders, death to infidels, and all that fun stuff as soon as they took him into custody and without questioning, because they would have had to Mirandize him before questioning took place (I know you'd prefer that we wouldn't let pesky things like the laws of our country get in the way of these things). These guys aren't geniuses, and they have no problem taking credit for their actions.

That doesn't mean the investigation stopped after one hour. It just means he may have made the prosecution's case for them without prompting or that he gave up his mission and organization without being questioned.

Yeah, it sailed when he was vetted by the United States government; multiple times. It sailed when he provided the standard legal copy of his Hawaiian birth certificate. It sailed when the newspapers in Honolulu posted announcements of his birth at the time, unless someone time traveled into the past knowing that one day someone might question his birthplace.

So if it was someone who you might possibly consider voting for purely because of their political platform, you'd dock them points simply for being a Muslim?

Why is it interesting that he's (allegedly) not attended church in a year though? Are you implying that that makes him a secret Muslim and that being Christian was all for show during the election? Because need I remind you that the GOP/FOX approved narrative is that he's a racist from spending twenty years at Wright's Christian church? Don't stray from party lines, now.

I do believe government run health care will lead to seniors not getting what they need. Meaning they won't get a hip replacement at 85 because someone who is 26 needs it. Rationing. Who's to say that won;t be extended to life saving procedures? But no, I don't think there would be a death panel. per se. Carousel, maybe. Either way, UHC is dead now anyway.
Since life expectancy is higher in first world countries with UHC than it is in the US, I'd say the whole granny's gonna die because of health care shortages argument doesn't hold water. Unless that's another one of those things you think the United States is incapable of doing that apparently every other first world nation can handle just fine. It is odd that those who shout "USA! USA! USA!" the loudest are the least confident in its abilities to do things that other countries do regularly.

I belive everything I just posted. What's your take on that? Was it acceptable from a moderators point of view?
Yep. I don't agree with a lot of them, but at least you presented them reasonably and in a way that can generate discussion.

And while I only agree with about 5% of your comments, I DO appreciate you taking the time to write them. Thanks.

I used Webster's complete second definition.

2 : to bend the head, body, or knee in reverence, submission, or shame

I did not use dictionary.com because Webster's is the dictionary most people take seriously and it's the one I always use.

I also was honest and said that there were other usages/definitions but I provided the complete text of the one that I thought was applicable.
The fact that you believe the second definition says far more about you than the incident says about the President.

Honestly, you should be embarrassed to admit that.

Not in the least.

Comments? Most of them were questions, directed at you.

If you appreciate them so much, why not take a stab at answering them? I'm sure, given that you are so sure of yourself, that you should have no problem at all. I mean, you started this thread for a discussion, didn't you?

Indeed. I can't really say I'm surprised by the fact that he didn't respond in kind, but I had hoped a reasonable back and forth discussion with supporting facts and links might be possible.

The Photographer speaks out.

"Nothing makes my blood boil more than seeing an image, particularly one I created, used outside of its original context to promote a particular agenda. Further compounding my frustration is that it is totally out of my control when it happens. People criticize the media constantly for showing bias, or not reporting the whole truth, but here is an instance of an accurate depiction of an event being recycled and repackaged with much bias. Fair? I don't think so."
