ok heres something that's annoyed me for a long time. why is everything on a starfleet ship/station etc so damn clean? There is never a single speck of dirt on the carpets, not a fingerprint on a screen, no wear and tear on anhthing. The only time you ever see dirt is when the ship is half blown up! What do they do, shoot messy eaters and anyone with a nosebleed or a crumb on their uniform get beamed out into space incase they get the place a little dirty?

In a controlled environment like a starship, I'd think that elements like dust would be rather controlled. I know that in the modern navy, a lot of non-emergency duty time is spent scrubbing. By the Starfleet days, I'd think they have even better ways to keep things clean.
We know that they use sonic showers on the ships, so it isn't impossible that they use automated sonic equipment to sonically clean elsewhere. It is also possible a variation of the Roomba could be used on the ship. A lot of cleaning systems are probably there, but why would the viewer want to see them?
How exactly is the ship going to get dirty in the first place, it's a sealed environment. The transporter might bring a small amount up with each person, maybe a little on their clothes and the soles of their shoes, but that's it.

And when it doesn't, the crew just beams the dust and dirt (along with the shitty diapers of the crew's babies) into space.
You do know that there are cleaning crews taking care of the sets in between the days of shooting?
In a sealed environment like a starship (or submerged submarine) no new dirt comes in, but you still have to clean up new dust -- it's human skin that comes off people and floats around.

Yup and he's wearing the uniform worn by 3 crew in the rec deck scene of TMP. Some manual cleaning does go on but as people say, most of it is probably automated as part of the air-recycling system.
