Why is everyone so negative about "Charlie X" ?

Delta Vega

Commodore
Commodore
OK, so some of the scenes are cringeworthy

Uhuru and Spock entertaining the plebs in the mess etc

But I genuinely find the ending to be very moving, and sad

"I can`t even touch them"

I`m not afraid to say that I found the episode to be very good, and Robert Walker played the part well.

I'm still new-ish here, and am not aware of any negativity about CX. In a number of works I have read, it is often rated as one of the better episodes. Maybe not top 5, but top 10 definitely.

Guessing that it just isn't to everybody's taste. Big surprise, that. ;)

What negativity is this then? I'm not aware of any. It's long been considered a fine eps.

Maybe I picked up the vibes wrong, seemed to be a certain nudge nudge quality to the debate of Charlie X.
Even seen it on someones worst 5.

it's a good episode. if someone has it on their worst 5 then that's their problem.

Intellectually, I can appreciate that it is a good episode - as already mentioned, the ending is moving and the episode well played, I just hate watching it for some reason.

Never heard of anyone putting it on their "worst" list. I've run across plenty of folks who put it in their top 5. It's definitely in my top 10.

The only "negative" stuff I've heard about it relates to people being freaked out by the scene where he removes that woman's face.

Because Charlie is more annoying than Wesley and Neelix put together. It's not a bad episode in concept, but I can't stand 30 seconds of the little twerp before shutting the TV off.

This is one of my favorite Star Trek episodes, so that's a question I can't answer with any certainty.

That said, Charlie Evans is a character who hits close to home for insecure adolescents and consequently for adults who have unresolved adolescent issues (as in, a whole, whole lot of adults; that's true for Wesley as well, come to think of it). He's not comfortable to watch, and a great deal of that is Robert Walker Jr's pretty fearless performance. The guy's brilliant in the part.

I'm not aware of any negativity. It's certainly not one of my favorite episodes, but I don't dislike it either. For me, it falls somewhere in the middle, I guess.

Wait - this is positive! WHO are you and what have you done with Legion? :)

I'm cool with it. It's in the earlier, creepy-Trek era.

Can you define "Creepy" ?

Woman without a face is the only scene in Star Trek that I rewatched hid behind my knees when I was a little boy.

---

The ending "I want to stay-ay-ay-ay" is quite moving, one of my favorite TOS endings. The wardrobe is outstanding on this episode. Robert Walker is completely convincing in the part. I like this episode.

Woman with no face?

Early eps have moodier music, more scariness and darkness, more pauses in dialog. Ent is far away from Fed help, starbases, etc. facing Balok, Ruk, a warbird that is invisible and destructive, LordoftheFlies-y children who almost "Bacchae" the captain, etc.

That is very, very sad.
Makes you really feel for the character.
And yes, Walker is superb.

Charlie's an annoying little brat and the ending's a deus ex machina. I wouldn't put it among the worst of TOS though.(isn't this the wrong forum?)
