Why Is a White Actor Playing 'Prince of Persia' Title Role?

It only needs to be addressed if it's a false belief. If it [is[/i] true, then it behooves the producers to cast the movie in a way that maximizes profit.

So you're saying if that kind of racism still exists in our culture as a whole, that's less important to address than if it only exists in the minds of a few executives? I think you've got that backward.

No, I think everybody is saying they are of the same race. What is wrong is subdividing that race to an absurb level. I guess if needed we can break ethnicity down to a specific neighborhood like urban gangsters do.

I think The Artist Formerly Known as Prince should have been Prince of Persia.

He could have been "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince of Persia!"

I'll shut up now.

Whoop dee doo. Just about every American Superhero these days are being portrayed by the British, and nobody seems to care. And neither do I.

Ah yes, Lord Downey and Sir Ryan Reynolds. Splendid chaps!

So when did "just about every" come to mean 100%?

Because I can only think of two Brits playing American super heroes in the last few years,so "just about every" strikes me as inaccurate.

Conscious racism aside, it's intellectually lazy to cast a half-Jewish/half-Swedish American and make him learn a British accent to play the "Prince of Persia" - yeah, I'm sure the Iranians are thrilled. The movie had a huge budget and we've got a civilization going here - they should have found a talented and hot Persian for the part. There are plenty out there dreaming of parts like this.

PS: jokes aside, I've often thought of using Djalili's last name in a my fiction since I first saw him in "Jason and the Argonauts".

So, how big of a name was Mila Javovitch before she was cast in Resident Evil?

The 5th Element and The Messenger: Joan of Arc, and a very successful model.

Face it, a film does not require a big name actor in order to be successful.

No it doesn't, but Disney usually plays it safe, especially when it's an expensive movie like PoP and they're looking to building a multi-film franchise out of it.

For all of the bitching, it looks like this movie is a turd anyway. So much for casting a big name in the lead

Because Americans hate arabs and if an arab was cast in that role the movie wouldnt make any money in the states.
If an Arab were cast, Iranians would probably be even more incensed.

Oh, I did forget to mention this--the British accent. Why is the British accent always a placeholder for "foreign" (and also "pre-modern")?:wtf: He's not going to be speaking Farsi, Kurd, or Azeri, so what's the difference?
