Why I refuse to ever watch this movie

Kirk's Brain

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
I made point of boycotting this film, and do not regard it as being 'real' Star Trek canon. Established canon has been ignored, which is a slap in the face to decades of Star Trek fans. I know the story is an 'alterante timeline', and that tells me the Leonard Nimoy Spock could have been from an alternate timeline as well, and was not the 'real' Spock.
This film really bothers me- I'd rather see Star trek die gracefully, rather than be torn down and be repelaced with something inferior.
I will NEVER see this film, that would be showing disrespect to TOS cast and fans.

Good for you. Now, why do you think it necessary to announce this in a forum dedicated to a film you say you refuse to watch? You're only inviting trouble (just giving you a head's up).

In the words of Kirk who had this to say to someone with your dedication "Ok. Arm phasers. Fire everything we've got."

Good for you.
Enjoy your fail.

Thanks for sharing this with us, don't let the door hit you on your way out.

Why are NEGATIVE opinions about this movie not welcome?

Has the TrekBBS become simply a "Star Trek Support Forum"?

I've seen more well received negative comments about President Obama on a Democratic Bulletin Board than I've seen about Star Trek here.

I see this as the same thing as comic books changing their continuity every few decades. Sometimes a continuity runs it's course. It happened with Trek now it needs a new one and this is a good place for it to start. Does not mean that the other stuff doesn't exist anymore. It will always be there, but Trek is better off going this direction in the long run.

It's the same as what they did to Doctor Who- That was a great sci fi show, and they had to wreck things by having the new Doctor Who series that is nowhere near as good as the original. I don't concider any Doctor who stories after Sylvester McCoy to be canon, just as I don't concider this new Star Trek film to be Trek canon.

I am commented on this page because it is about the new film- I'm not sure if only glowing praise of the film is allowed, if not, my apolgies to the moderators

They are welcome...by people who have good reasons. Starting a thread saying "I'm not seeing this movie" is just a waste. This forum is here to discuss the film, not to discuss not seeing the film.

A lot of the negative opinions are from people that really didn't see the movie. Even the ones that went.

I personally don't care if people don't like it. But they should at least watch the goddamned thing first.

Double fail.

Doctor Who new and old rocks.

The timeline is altered, yeah, but the movie shows an incredible about of love and respect for the source material. As a 20 year Star Trek fan I couldn't have been happier with the reverence shown toward the franchise I love so much.

It's your loss if you don't check out this movie, brotha.

People have talked a lot about the good reviews of this movie.

I've seen many of the reviews.

MOST of the reviews seem to praise the film for its look, direction, action sequences, production values, et cetera.

In other words, Abrams made good use of 150 million dollars.

But be honest, most of the other Trek movies would probably be well reviewed if they had the equivalent of 150 million dollars to throw into production.
