Why go to the lengths of making films and don't link the video?

I've been interested in watching some fan films and I'm getting really frustrated with the video not being on the site or even a clear link.

Surely if they want us to watch then they should have the link screaming out above all other information on the site. Grrrr, it's maddening that this isn't the case.

The last 3 sites I visited made it seem like a puzzle to find the videos. I'm not going to name and shame. I would just like future producers to take into account that it should be crystal clear where to click on a site to get instant access to videos or instructions for download. It's not rocket science.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Which sites? Exeter's movies have been off-line for a couple of months now except on YouTube, and no, they don't tell you that. But are there others?

Yes, I experienced it. In fact, I found some website didn't have films at all. Hello, that's part of why I created Star Trek Reviewed. Easy access to lots of fan films without hunting through hundreds of websites with no fan films. Now, if you can tell me that I haven't linked to the right download page, and which sites I've messed up, I'll correct that.

I will say/announce this right now... in terms of my own project, the end result will be made available to the public in three ways... a free online download, a series of YouTube videos, and DVDs that you will be able to send for, which will be 100% free.

We ARE working on a short 30-second teaser/promo, that when complete, will be put on YouTube, and a link to the video will be posted here.

Yep, I know that, just trying to snag a new viewer. The likelihood of it being found on your site isn't exactly the highest in contrast to the numerous productions of more interest, there are a lot of films on there...You totally just "cock blocked" me! ;)

Sorry, didn't think! Brain freeze! ... although I'm not sure that seeing your webpage at STR is going to turn her off. She's got one, too! http://startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/2009/06/62.html

BTW, Section 31, although I have been saving Encarta for this summer (I don't pay for cable, I expect to watch this over the summer when the over-the-air networks here in the US give us no fresh TV) I've hear a lot of raves, and Dark Hope has the second most complaints (after Exeter) that there's no more. And Exeter has been sitting with one full episode, and an incomplete episode for 5 or 6 years, not four complete ones with no follow-up. I can't say I've seen Dark Hope and it's XYZ, but I can say I've anticipating enjoying it, and from the enthusiasm, it's got to be exciting.

Finally, Picard Alpha, concerning traffice, my website keeps building. In October I averaged 5 or 6 visitors a day, this month it's over 30. That's not Phase II/New Voyages numbers, but it keeps growing. This could be my first month with over 1000 visitors.

That's great to hear! I hope your numbers keep growing! :) I know the old Encarta site barely scratched 30 a month! :)
I suspect your webpage at my website alone does more than that! (And I'm always looking for links back, BTW. Look at what Star Trek: Counter Worlds has done at their You Tube home: http://www.youtube.com/user/albion432 (look under "About me"... he he!!) . The fellow who is doing this sent me an e-mail last December saying he expected to finish the third, and final part of his first episode this year.

How does the old saying go? "If you film it, they will come." Or something like that. :bolian:

Can't speak for anyone else, but personally, I'd much rather know if people have problems with our site, than be blissfully unaware of it.

Maybe we could have a thread in the fanfilm section here JUST for website updates, or to provide info on any dead links?

Since your website was the very first one I ever downloaded from, it's almost a year since I did that. However, I still think the releases should be labeled in what order they should be watched, and not just in what order they were released. If somebody comes to Intrepid through STR, they watch the films in the proper order. If they find Intrepid on their own, they will watch them in the order released, which is not optimal.

That's somewhere on our list of things to do, somewhere behind 'get the next episode finished'. :)

Seriously though, it's a fair point, and as I mentioned to you before, it's something we will do once our webmaster has the time.

It was brought up internally before we published the "out of order" episode. However I went with it as is for speed. When I work out how I want to approach it I will change it. It'll probably happen when we have the next episode ready.

I wasn't planning on raising this again, but Nick said he wanted to hear, so you heard. I don't really feel good about repeating myself. I think your show is fantastic, even in the wrong order. But it's just a little bit MORE fantastic in the right order.
