Why does the Enterprise always get destroyed?

And apparently the Enterprise gets destroyed in the forth-coming movie and severely damaged in the two previous outings. Not sure why the powers that be feel the need to have these sort of plots but it goes completely against the episodic nature of Star Trek to have the ship damaged/destroyed nearly every movie. Honestly it drives me crazy and I never consider the movies the same Trek as the series because of it.

Yes well, After First Contact the Enterprise (whichever version it is) is there solely to get it arse kicked. Why anyone thought that's a good idea I have no idea.

In STO, the Battle of Procyon V is going to take place. So we'll see the J back in action on July 06.

^ OK, I've never played STO, but my understanding is that it's set in 2410. Isn't that a little early for the Battle of Procyon V? And... why does it even occur at all, since Enterprise resolved the Sphere Builder conflict in the 22nd century?

^ STO's latest set of "episodes" involve the Temporal Accords and the Temporal Cold War. My guess is that it has something to do with time travel and/or alternate timelines.

Thankfully, STO is not canon, and the novelverse doesn't even have to follow it. Indeed, the novelverse diverges from STO in a lot of ways, most of them for the better.

I've found it hard to make any real comparisons between the novelverse and STO. They're different media and as such have different formats. It's like comparing apples to oranges. I will say that I'm glad they're not required to be consistent with each other. I think it would diminish both. I love the novelverse's take on the Temporal Cold War, especially in Watching the Clock, but I've also had tremendous fun seeing the same war unfold differently in STO.

^ Indeed. There's no contest about which is the best tie-in. Evaluating them is beyond the scope of this thread's discussion.
