Why does Sci Fi do so poorly in the ratings

1. (More) Caffeine. Add a couple hours to your day.

Although it will also change your personality and change how you write.

That does seem inadvisable.

2. Put the DVD of series one of what ever into the machine, play at X4 speed, and turn the subtitles on.

You might lose a lot of atmosphere, but it does mean that you can watch a 60 minute show ( meat + 20 minutes of ads that are not there.) in 10 minutes, which is a season in two hours for your boutique programming.

Once you get the hang of this, try watching season two at X8 speed.

I already watch Walking Dead on fast forward with subtitles, although I do tend to play it at normal speed when there's talking. There's so little dialogue I can still do an episode in under 25 minutes...

Yikes. I didn't realize that I was fomenting confusion. For the record, I was definitely being sarcastic about the "lesser minds" thing. I was poking fun at the fandom's occasional tendency to assume that our tastes are ever so more elevated than those of "the masses" who don't get sf/fantasy. Which can get a bit elitist and self-congratulatory sometimes.

(I guess I should have put "lesser minds" in quotes to indicate that I was being ironic.)

And that was by no means directed at any poster in particular. Alas, it's an attitude one runs into fairly often at sf sites--and probably dates back to the whole "fans are slans" silliness of generations past.

P.S. Glad to hear that I'm not largely regarded as a crazy person . . . except where Richard Matheson is concerned! :)
Thank you for clarifying. I apologize for misunderstanding your intent, and I hope there are no hard feelings.

There seems to be a segment of fandom that looks down on those who aren't on their perceived intellectual level, and it is unfortunately represented here to some degree. I hadn't seen anything from you that suggested that you were a part of that group, but the statement bothered me. I should have just let it go.

Again, my apologies.

No problem! Sorry for the confusion--but glad we got that cleared up!

The other major factor for me, is how much rewatchability does a tv show have, after one has watched it once already.

In general, I find that many tv shows don't have much rewatch value for me, after I have seen the episodes already. This is independent of whether it is sci-fi or not.
Do a lot of people watch shows more than once ?

I don't feel an urge to watch things for a second time, with the possible exception of the occasional rerun of Trek episodes that I haven't seen for 20-30 years...

I love rewatching stuff I like.

I must have seen my favorite TNG episodes more than 50 times each, and I still don't get bored of watching them.

I've watched Stargate Atlantis at least 4 times in a row before, and I'm thinking of a fifth round once I finish DS9.

I saw Lost twice, but I think that's pretty much all I can get out of it.

Firefly was written too much for geeks, and that's why they love it (I don't hate it, but I thought the movie had a much better tone and pacing, I wish the show would have been the same)

Almost Human sounds like something I'd enjoy watching, I'm going to check it out.

Aw, just admit it -- you're a "fast zombie" fan. :p
