Why does Riker lean into corners?

LOL, just came across this thread because I googled "Why does Jonathan Frakes turn his shoulder into corners" hahahha this is the best threat I've read here so far.

Yes, Frakes's shoulder can be quite threatening for the unprepared...

Well, as long as it has been resurrected....

Welcome to the future!

Nice find, knew it was just a matter of time :rommie:

I always just assumed he, like all of us, enjoyed a good game of, my head is the starship Enterprise zooming through space.

Unless we are carrying a plate, in which case it becomes the saucer, banking into turns.

Admit it!

*In Australian accent* As you can see here, we have a wild Riker in his natural habitat.

Great Thread with lots of laughs and info! BBS at it Best!

Frakes is just really tall. The irony of being tall is that you, consciously or not, end up trying to de-emphasize your height. This is especially true when you are being filmed around people significantly shorter than you.

A back injury does not totally explain it. I have back problems as well, but that tends to make me stand up straighter and thus taller.

This has cleared up a number of things I've wondered about Frakes down the years, his strange posture (which I always took to be an affectation - a way of putting across a degree of insouciance, along with his tendency to step over the back of chairs to sit down and place his foot on convenient objects to lean against), in particular the way in which adopting any form of military/straight backed stance seemed quite artificial and just a little incongruent. You just noticed that he was doing it more so than others.
Also, the rather marked lack of demanding action scenes for such a dynamic adventurous character who was often in the thick of the action.

So having read this thread. Today I realised, I walk like Riker.

Either I need to get my back sorted out, or master doing the sitting down thing.

Until I saw this thread today I never thought about it to be honest. I'll have to re-watch my TNG dvds now.

Anyone who's at least a little bit uncomfortable in this world, physically or otherwise, can be a pal o'mine. Interesting, clever thread.

Hey--he could be running like characters in Anime, with arms trailing back.

Riker is Kirk plus--always plowing forward.
