Why does Firefox keep crashing

"Latest version" as in Firefox version 3.5.3?

It would probably require more information to diagnose your problem than you are providing. Information like the information that the error box is proposing to send, which OS you're using (including version and/or service pack level), the amount of physical memory in your computer and the URLs of some pages that cause the browser to crash.

Your inquiry might be read by a larger population of qualified respondents at http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.support.firefox/topics?lnk

Scanned for spyware and virus's lately?

Sounds like a third party app or addon or something is crashing the browser, maybe java or flash, or a runtime script. In the Addons disable your addons and extensions and see if that goes away, if it does, slowly turn each one back on until you find the culprit.

I had a similar problem with an earlier version of FF. Turned out it was 3.0.1x, and didn't automatically install what came between3.0.10 and 3.5.1. Running fine now.

I'd go with what's said above, and also ask is it the same site each time or different sites?

Yes, I had this same problem with the latest Firefox. It kept crashing, four or five times an hour, when trying to open perfectly ordinary sites. I had a look around on various tech problems, and quite a lot of people seem to be having trouble with it. I can't be arsed to faff around with everything - if it doesn't work as it's supposed to, it's no good to me. I eventually reinstalled the earlier version of Firefox, and it works just as fine as it always did.

yes. I got rid of my viruses using a full avg sweep after using lennox to install it. i also downloaded the latest firefox.

happens now more than ever.
You have Annie Lennox as a personal virus assistant? All I have is Gary Glitter. :(

Have you tried turning off all your add-ons as suggested above? Just installing the latest version probably wont help because it might carry over your add-ons which were causing the problem before. I've been running 3.5.3 for several weeks with no crashes, although I did hear a lot of complaints about it when 3.5 was first released.

That's why I decided not to using FireFox anymore. To be honest with you, they sucks really bad when it comes to crashing too much. Google Chrome is perfect for me to take all it in and so far it's all good.

And FireFox caused my computer to freezing a lot, unable to closing most programs that I needed them to be. So why bothering using FireFox program?

I spent one month using the following browsers, rotating between them:

IE
Safari
Firefox
Chrome
Opera

Now, I only use IE when I have to (such as logging onto my MSDN account). I use Chrome almost always. I actually uninstalled Firefox. It is on par with IE for slowness, but even less stable. It really is a pile of complete shit.

Opera and Safari both are fine browsers. I ended up using Chrome more simply because it feels the fastest to me. Chrome and Safari are probably the two most like one another. Chrome seems to have a bit less glitter than Safari, and for me that is good. Others may take it as a negative. I have probably tested Opera the least of the bunch, but will use it more now that I realize I did not give it a fair chance.

Now that's odd. I use IE when I must, it's slow for me. I prefer FF, it runs okay, fast and stable, faster than IE. Chrome is much faster, but I find it a little unstable and really underfeatured. If Chrome gets more features I might switch to it.

I use IE when absolutely necessary, FF as my default browser, and uninstalled Chrome because it was so unstable I couldn't work with it.
Standards! Why can't we have standards!? ;)

Seriously, though, I just updated to FF 3.5.4, and it seems to be doing okay, although I've been having more difficulty with Firefox lately, which is annoying, since my only real alternatives are IE and Chrome.

J.

I've used Opera for a very long time, as it's been fast, and better organised than IE, or at least older versions of it. However, I was drawn back to Firefox a few years ago as Opera had some issues with some websites, and had an annoying habit of freezing a lot while on my old XP laptop. Plus Firefox had customizable features and add-ons which were attractive to me (and I love to fiddle with stuff :D).

I've now been looking at alternatives to Firefox as it's taking up too many resources on my Vista computer, occasionally freezing, and needing periodic shutdowns to clear the memory. I tried a recent version of Opera again to see if I can use it again, but wasn't too sure about it. I also tried Chrome but found it too lacking in features. I haven't tried Safari yet.

I might have another look at the others as the last time was a while ago and new versions may be out. Who knows, I might even go back to IE 8.

New FF version out now, 3.5.4

Also a Flash update available

I love FF btw, definitely my browser of choice, no issues here

Which version of FF are you using? I was using 3.0.10, and it was a memory hog. Manually d'led 3.5.1 and a lot of the memory hog issues seemed to go away. You should check and see which version you have.

Go to Start>Programs>Mozilla Firefox> and click on the safe mode shortcut. This is the bare no add ons/plugins version of your current browser, if it runs well then you probably have a problem with an old add on/plugin.

Update all your extensions and check your plugins here

If the crashes still occur under safe mode then you might have a corrupted profile which you can solve by deleting your profile folder or uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox.

I was using 3.5.3 - have only now upgraded to 3.5.4, to see if it's any different.

Just revisited Chrome - it just looks odd to me.

Haven't had any issues with Firefox in a while (currently 3.5.4) but there is one small oddity here.

On the new posts page, next to the thread title It seems to be showing what I guess are the tags for the thread. I know 3.5.3 and earlier didn't show them for me there.
