I can remember that at one stage they showed there was more to the guys low social status than simply being 'nerdy.' Penny had a boyfriend who was pretty dumb, but otherwise a really nice guy (I can't remember his name, but he made a very convincing Superman.). The main characters proceeded to heap shit on him the second they worked out he wouldn't beat them up for doing so.
That I have seen before in reality. Unlike BBT's usual schtick, they underplayed how vicious it can get, and left out the usual half-assed justification of 'people like him/her used to bully me in school...'
On a more positive note, I've purposefully seen all Stephen Hawking's appearances. It made him seem even more awesome, and lead to me finding this:
