Why do people hate soccer moms so much?

I think the phrase was just fine until Sarah Palin come along. As a self described Hockey mom (interchangeable with Soccer mum) it morphed overnight into its 2009 definition of being a very dumb person who doesn't know anything.

I don't hate just soccer moms! I hate everbody equally.

It's just another manifestation of the PTA/Church Group problem where people who don't remember what it's like to be a child want to child-proof the world and make it unfit for adults.

This past weekend I went to a psych/indie music festival in the desert. I was reading some comments on their facebook page and one guy was thanking people for creating a "nice vibe" for his kids( all except a few people he said) and protecting his kids from "the crazies".
Now, this was held at a bar ( combo cafe bar) the bands he mentioned played at night, people were there to enjoy great bands, let loose a little, getting high, drunk, possibly looking to get laid, (who knows) and this dad expects a child friendly environment for his 5 year old? Oh, and the music was really loud as well.
What is with parents today? Geez Some don't want to have to alter their lifestyle at all. They seem to expect others to change. I suppose they'd want a child friendly Burning Man festival as well. We really need to bring back the concept of adult spaces.

As to soccer moms specifically, I also hear their fashion choices derided..

I want to know what's the deal with people hating soccer moms so much. I know they're the responsible for censoring everything on the tv, fearing that it could bring the nightmares to kids.

This is it right there. Certain soccer moms want the government to censor things rather than simply just censoring it themselves. Why monitor and control what video games your kids play and TV shows they watch when the government can do it for you?

Consider, generally it is the father that pushes sport. Even if some of our greatest atheletes grew up without dad, mom pushed sport as a positive male bonding as opposed to gangsters being negative male role models.

Also soccer is strickly an American term. As Americans see it soccer is a safer alternative to real football. Soccer moms are thus takeing the lead from sports dad but being moms they are pushing a soft sport out of fear the little one gets hurt.
