Why do I own Nemesis?

I'm watching this movie right now, and it is undoubtedly a terrible, terrible movie. It has canon mistakes left, right and center...the effects and make up appliances are horrible. The characters are practically unrecognizable. Since when would Worf scream like a little girl and step back all prancy boy like if something grabbed his ankle? How could the away team get ambushed by the Mad Max aliens...is this the one time the Enterprise decided not to keep an eye on the mission? A positronic signature can be detected light years away!?! So Data can be detected by pretty much anyone whenever they want?

All that, not to mention it's terrible! Did I say that already? It's really a terrible movie. I think I may get rid of it. It will be the one Trek film I don't own. Proudly. 'Cause it's terrible. Worse than The Final Frontier.

I bought it because it was a Star Trek movie. I have attempted to watch it 3 times times since it came out on DVD. The first time I fell asleep. The other two times I had to turn it off. It's a terrible excuse for a film.

I will play the badguy in this thread, and say that I really enjoyed Nemesis. It got a little slow around the middle, but it was overall very entertaining. It's in my top 4 list. So, aside from the logic & continuity mistakes you mentioned, what makes it a terrible movie, if you don't mid me asking?

The whole movie just seems so out of character.

Data has no emotions.

Worf is a comedic tool. (This was true in Insurrection, too, but at least there you could blame the "fountain of youth").

Shinzon makes no sense: why did they clone Picard before he did anything remarkable? Why does Shinzon want to go after Earth? Who the hell cares about the Remans?

I'm really quite tired of SUPER WEAPONS.

The dune buggy scene is silly, and having it lead to B-4 is silly as well. You want a Soong android? Why not use Lore? He's an established villain that TNG fans would recognize and care about.

And the script is just plain dumb.

I ask the same question myself?

Why do I own Nemesis on DVD?

Deep Discount DVD 2 years ago offered a "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" offer, so I purchased the 2-disc GEN, FC, and INS.

...then realized, "Might as well just add NEM into the shopping cart." (This is 1 DVD if I lose, I plan not to replace.). :borg:

I liked it but then again I am a visual person, so all the space battles and stuff are enough for me.

I agree Worf was a pussy and doomsday weapons are getting old, but I have to have it because I am a Son of Soong.

RIP Data.

The movie is quite bland, but you gotta love the Part were the Enterprise rams the Scimitar. The CGI in that part was awesome.

Those were model, actually. The only time in the movie they used them.

I hate that scene...and this is a nit pick, but after awhile they all build up and all become horrible in their little ways...because of Shinzon's "full reverse." Umm...if the Enterprise wasn't in full reverse as well, you'd just be pulling them along with you...you stupid fucking hack screenwriter!

It came as part of this 10 film boxset...

If it were missing, I'd have demanded my money back!

Not necessarily. If the two ships' guts weren't significantly intertwined -- and it's debatable whether they "really" would be -- then the Scimitar's engines would have pulled that ship away from the Enterprise.

In my opinion, I think it was quite obvious they were significantly intertwined. They were both moving forward when they hit and there was a significant amount of debris and rippage while they pulled apart, not to mention the amount of turbulence experienced by the crews as the ships pulled away.

But if they were not intertwined enough to transmit the force of the Scimitar's engines through to the Enterprise, then the Scimitar would accelerate and the Enterprise would not. For comparison, fold two pieces of aluminium foil into neat shapes, jam them together, and then see if you can hold both up by tugging one and not the other.

But gravity is a force holding onto the other piece. In space, there would be no force holding the Enterprise in spot and therefore virtually any amount of intertwining of the ships hulls would hold them together.

.. and if you were dangling one above the other, gravity would be relevant. I said tugging and I meant tugging: pull one directly and the other only by how the aluminium foil cracks against the other.

For extra credit, try to explain why railroad cars require heavy coupling devices and can't simply be bound together by a loop of string running from the engine to the first car.

At least get your nitpicks right dude - there is no gravity in space but you still need to apply a force to an object to change its speed or direction as it still has mass and inertia - in order to move the Scimitar and not the Enterprise all that would be necessary is for the force required to seperate the ships being less than the force needed to shift the Ent-E's mass.

In fact what is likely is that the Enterprise DOES start moving faster but you cannot see it as relatively the Scimitar is moving more rapidly in the same direction. It is highly likely the Enterprise and Scimitar are moving after the collision to, but as all you can see is the two ships you can only see their relative movement.

Funny, when I saw Nemesis in the theater, I really enjoyed it. If I remember right, hearing that it would come out on DVD only, and not on VHS, is one of the reasons I finally broke down and bought a DVD player.

Wasn't until I came here that I was told I should have hated it so much that I should have vomited in the theater.

I like Nemesis.
