Why did they take it off Spike?

I know it come on in the morning but I really enjoyed randomly tuning into an episode from 4-6 pm. It ticks me off that stupid Spike is playing crap like CSI and wrestling over and over again in Voyager's ex time spot.
Is there any hope that it'll go back to its original time?

The problem is because in 2000 The National Network (TNN) bought the syndication rights to TNG (to air is 2002), DS9(to air in 2004) and Voyager (to air in 2006). They could not show Voyager until 2006. In those 6 years TNN evolved into Spike (2004) and changed there type of programming, thus phasing out these Star Trek series (putting DS9 and Voyager in crappy slots etc..). Since they got to show TNG early (2002) that got a ton of air time. The final nail in the coffin was when Spike got airing rights to CSI that got higher rating and thus they now play all the time, Spike also recenty got rights to CSI:NY so thats moving in to. If TNN were alowed to show Voyager at the same time they had show TNG (2002) then it would have been on all the time, it is just a victim of bad timing and changing network direction.

A very similar thing happened with the Babylon 5 spin-off Crusade, TNT wanted to go that route and then they decided (during its first season) to go more the crime drama route with airing rights to Law & Order. Crusade was cancelled. TNT pretty much moved away from scifi and now Spike has done the same thing.

The really sad thing is Even the fucking Scifi channel has moved away from alot of scifi!! Scifi did pick up the airing rights of TNG (they have Enterprise too) after Spike, I just wonder if they will try to pick Ds9 and Voyager once there contract is expired with Spike.

The Sci Fi channel sucks; with the rare exceptions of BSG and the StarGate franchise, all they go for is shitty creature flicks, retarded so-called reality ghost shows, and frakin wrestling.

Give me a break Sci Fi.

I really enjoyed ENT nights on Sci Fi, then it was replaced with TNG which I enjoyed, but now both get jerked all over the schedule. I enjoy catching Voyager now and again on the overnight, but I don't understand why one network somewhere can't show TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT all in a row.

$$$$$$$$$$$ and that the contracts for sydication rights have date windows in them right now Scifi and Spike are tied with 2 series each, TOS (remastered) is still in general wide syndication with local channel markets.

They need to make room for other quality programming like Manswers and Ultimate Fighting

I've always thought it was funny that Spike showed Voyager and DS9, it is such a disgusting and worthless channel and the Trek shows seem so out of place there.

Of course if you would just invest in the DVDs like I did then you can watch any series any time you want. Believe me it's worth it!

A couple of years ago my wife and I decided to cut off cable TV and use the $60.00 a month savings toward building our DVD library. I daresay that anyone doing the same could have a substantial library to view within a short period of time. We have never lacked for anything to watch in the last two years. Never!

I agree. I don't get cable either and I can use that savings to buy a dvd collection is I want it.

As much as I hate Spike, I do have to say that I would never have gotten into DS9 or Voyager if they weren't showing them.

I have a friend who owns most of the Trek DVDs and he lets me borrow them occasionally. Spike is still my main way of seeing these shows though. Once they stop showing them I can finally de-program Spike from my TV though, that is a plus!

I belive the contract period for airing rights is 5 years, TNG was available to TNN (Spike) in 2002 and towards the end of 2007 the 5 year window closed and Scifi bought up the airing rights. Based on this, DS9 airing rights on Spike should be up this year and Voyager's in 2011, So around 2012 we may see Voyager on another network. Keep in mind that deals with other networks can be done to share airing rights, this was done when the G4 channel was showing TNG in 2004 even though Spike had the rights, G4 came to some sort of financial arrangement with Spike to do that.

I used to really enjoy watching VOY when I got home from work while eating a snack to relax. Its sad cuz I used to also watch TOS while I got ready for work on TVland (it used to be on at like 6am) and that is gone now too :(

I third the motion, forget Spike you would be much better off just buying the DVD's that way you are not at the mercy of some lame cable channel, showing lame tv shows. Start off your collection slowly, you'll be surprised how fast you can get a decent collection going, best of luck in your viewing...

You could also pick them up used at a used bookstore, etc.
