Why Charlie shouldn't be -

Gertch

Admiral
Spoilers for end of season 3. I know it's passed the time but still, be kind. Rewind, er be careful.

Yeah, I know it's part of the story and he really is dead. But I've been rewatching the series and while looking for something on Youtube I came across and interesting vid.

This vid actually has a valid point I think. Am I missing something?

The reason why Charlie Pace can't be dead!

I seem to recall it occurring in the grading thread (or possibly the commentary thread), but my memory's rusty.

But it's...magic water!

Here's something else amusing about that scene: Charlie drowned faster than he should have. Yes, I taped it and held my breath for as long as it took Charlie to "drown." I wasn't even out of breath. Charlie must have the lung capacity of a gerbil.

And then there's the issue that Charlie didn't have to shut the door to save Desmond. There would have been plenty of time before the water filled the whole area for them to escape at their leisure.

It doesn't matter if Charlie could have escaped with Desmond or not.

Death was inevitable and Desmond could not keep saving him forever.
Charlie chose to end it there and then, instead of risking harming anyone else in the future while managing to get the point about the boat across.

Anyway, even if he didn't die from the water he should be dead from starvation or something by now. :p:p

Unless, of course, Christian came and got him and he's hanging out with Claire in the cabin.

Based on what we learned about the island "letting you die" from Michael's episode this season, I think the island just decided it was Charlie's turn for whatever reason, and we may or may not ever actually learn that reason.

Actually, I wonder if he was "supposed" to be dead from the start, but since he left his assigned seat to run to the bathroom right before the crash, he survived. Then later, the island tried again via Ethan but Jack managed to barely save him (shouldn't he have had a bunch of broken ribs or something from that whole ordeal? ;)) My theory falls apart after that, because other than the hatch incident with the dynamite, he seemed to be in no more danger than anyone else up until Des told him the bad news.

I still don't think we've seen the last of him. I expect a Boone, Libby, and Charlie reunion sometime in the future. ;)

Charlie may be alive and I could probably buy whatever storyline. But, Boone and Shannon were both buried. If they come back, ... I'd have to start stalking the writers so I can end their miserable existance.

hm that's interesting, didn't cross my mind at the time but it makes perfect sense. Poor Charlie.

I'm just wondering, if dead people come back as ghosts like in Season 4, are we going to start seeing Boone, Shannon, Nikki, Paolo, Ecko, etc?

Exclusively Nikki & Paulo for the 5th season, and they finally enlist Billy Dee Williams to help in time for the season finale.
