Why Bring Back Rose Tyler?

In the first page of this thread, Allyn Gibson has posted the best reply. And while Rose Tyler went off the rails a bit by S2 and was mostly superfluous in the last run of Tennant stories, I'm puzzled why some people really loathed Rose Tyler and call her a slutbag (just because Piper played a high rent hooker in a ITV series).

I still think Season Four had problems and its season finale has not held up well to repeat viewings, comparing NuWho's Season Four to Season One is akin to comparing TNG's Season Seven to Season Three in terms of quality; the later season has more stinkers than the much earlier season that set the standard, but still overall good and has some outstanding classics (like "Parallels" and "Midnight").

Well put, all having Rose there does is dilute the impact of what happens to Donna in two ways; firstly because it's a distraction, but also because whilst RTD is trying to make us feel sorry for what's happened to Donna, he's showing us that the last time he gave a companion a tragic ending he couldn't help but come back and resolve it so she had a happy ending (in his eyes, more on this later) and lo and behold look what he did!

If RTD had been around in the 80s lets face it he'd have brought Adric back from the dead :)

And yet Peri's ultimate fate would likely remain unchanged.;)

But yeah. If anything, I just think bringing Rose back was a bad idea because nothing that they did with her in "The Stolen Earth"/"Journey's End" could top the gut-wrenching emotional climax of "Doomsday." Although, I do have a hard time figuring out how to balance the needs to maintain the integrity of the "Doomsday" ending with the need for companion return symmetry in "The Stolen Earth"/"Journey's End."

As for the end of Donna's story, I don't think the Rose element spoiled it too much. "Journey's End" was already rediculously bloated anyway to the point where it's hard to feel the difference.

I think if she had someone would have really needed to remind Billie how to play Rose as she seemed to have forgotten in the episodes she was in...she really should have scheduled her dental work a bit better as well.
