Why are the TOS movies "discontinued"???????????????

Yeah so I'm searching around on Amazon looking to buy a few TOS movies, Final Frontier and Undiscovered -- and it says "this item has been discontinued by the manufacturer"...can anyone advise why the hell is going on and why in the world it would be discontinued???????

They are 'out of print'---not discontinued.

They are not made on a continuous production line. They press so many copies and wait for them to sell out.

They will someday repress them or come out with a replacement release.

Doesnt seem like very good planning! You would think with the new movie out they would have pressed a bunch more DVDs of the other Trek movies knowing that interest would grow. Seems like they are probably missing out on a ton of DVD sales.

I looked on Amazon and the only TOS movies they seem to have in stock is the new release of the Trilogy that came out May 12 here: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Motion-Picture-Trilogy/dp/B001TH16CY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1243961429&sr=8-1

Looks like you cant buy TMP, TFF, or TUC and also cant buy the other three movies individually. Strange decision by Paramount not to take advantage of the positive buzz of the new movie to sell DVDs!

Thank you Grant! Like I said I've noted the price has increased too...I guess because they are little more scarce at the moment...maybe the best route is to rent them!

Falcor...when has Paramount done anything right in regards to this show??? At least you can say they are consistent....

In the time between my first copy of Star Trek V on DVD and ordering my replacement from Amazon.com (about 4 years apart), the cost went from $5 to $12. My replacement never arrived (shipping error from the store not Amazon) and they didn't have anymore from that store, so I bought the DVD from another retailer on Amazon. The time between the order error and my new order was 2 months, and a month before the premier of the new movie. My price for the new Star Trek V DVD? $22, so the prices are going up.

Find an FYE near you. They sell used discs, and most of the times I've looked in the sci-fi and Trek sections, they've had every film at one time or another. You just need to keep haunting the store every few days since you never know when something will come back in stock or come in as used.
