Why are sci fi fans more mature?

I agree sports forums are much, much worse than sci-fi forums.

My theory isn’t that sci-fi fans are more mature so much as immature sci-fi fans aren’t as good at gate keeping. Immature sports fans instantly drive off the mature ones. Whereas mature sci-fi fans know how to verbally smack down the immature ones.

I joined a Celtics group on Facebook.

It took me two days to quit.

Football fans wear the outfits and paint of their favorite team and then go to a big building and gripe about all the other teams. They even gripe about their own team while praising it, holy dichotomy Batman.

What's so different about sci-fi fans?

At the risk of repeating myself, a lack of group violence.

I assumed this thread was done in jest to set up some jokes so I will go with.

We are more mature because we don't have as much sex so in turn we masturbate more meaning we have laser like attention and clear headiness at least 3 times a day which allows us to solve all our more existential worries before the feeling goes away but of course the answers to those life questions stay with us afterwards.

As someone who has lived and breathed sci-fi since watching TNG with my dad at the age of five, no, we really aren’t any more mature than sports fans, or anyone else.

This specific forum is great though, so much better than the average level of discourse elsewhere on the internet.

If you see many of the football forums on the internet you can see much unintelligible dribble and immaturity. I never see any of that on this forum.

What makes us more mature?

I've seen plenty of unintelligible dribble on this forum. To be fair, some of it is very imaginative but that doesn't make it any less....
