Why are people afraid of ghosts?

Because apparently ghosts can effect things in our world, but we can't effect things in their world.

Sure we can.

Just once, I'd like to hear of a ghost encounter where the human having the halucination said, loudly, "Look, bitch, this is my fucking house. If you died here or some shit, no one cares. Keep up your bullshit, and I'll burn this fucking house to the ground.

"Then you can haunt a pile of goddamned ashes. Or you can knock off your bullshit and hang around here with us. Your fucking choice."

Just once.

Joe, knows ghosts don't exist

People are afraid of things they don't understand.

I have seen ghosts in my parent's house growing up and it's freaky. They obviously didn't hurt me but seeing someone who is dead is just an awkward experience. That and hearing your name being called in the dark when you're trying to sleep is enough to make you shit your pants.

That's actually quite common. They're called hypnagogic hallucinations and they probably account for a lot of "ghost" sightings. It could be as minor as as hearing your name or as major as thinking a demon is attacking you.

Um, no bud, I wasn't hallucinating. I just explained that my house had a few spirits in it. :techman:

Yes you were hallucinating. That's why you thought you had spirits in the house. See it's kind of like the chicken and egg thing there.:vulcan:

One reason I think you might not have much proof, when it comes to ghost is because people usually aren't looking for them. If you saw a gohst or had a paranormal experience, there is a good chance you won't have a camera with you or any recording device. That's asuming these things can be used to gather proof. Ghost, if they are real, remind me of wind. You don't see it unless there is something to call attention to it such as wind or dust particles in the air.

Would anyone notice a ghost animal, unless it was like a dinosaur.

Wasn't there something about a female ghost raping some guy. One of those nice family moves into a haunted house stories.

There was one Unsolved Mysteries creeped me out when I was young, about some haunted bunk bed (some family got the bed, then scaarrry stuff happened). I've been terrified of bunk beds ever since.

Robert Stack in a trenchcoat wouldn't lie!

ive always found going on Ghost Walks and seeing Ghosts very convenient, who would have thought, ghosts would appear whenever a group of people looking for Ghosts and listening to stories about a ghost would appear.

I have been on a couple in my time, and did see something interesting in a camera flash, but like that UFO I saw once, I think it was fake.

BTW there is also no physical evidence of UFOs...

So why do people believe in them?
I am more open to believing in UFOs than I am in ghosts.

why believe in UFOs, in the hope that oen day aliens will take you away from this shit hole of a planet, and your dull life, and take you to their exciting planet.

To me they are one in the same thing. Something that science cannot prove (well for UFOs as of yet)

it seems much more likely that there is life on other planets, than the dead coming back in ghost form.

If you prove there is life on other planets, then you most allow that one day that life may be, may current be, or my have been intelligent life, and maybe like us have ventured out into the stars.

There are other theories on what UFOs are as well.

Why is it more likely? Who knows.

I think if human beings had been coming back from the dead for the past 3000+ years we would have a much better idea of what the afterlife is, and be able to say convulsively, that ghosts & the after life do exist.

Convulsively?

Sorry...I couldn't resist. ;)

There was a movie called the Entity with Babara Hershey that was supposedly based on a true story. A ghost physically and sexually assaulted a woman.

And why aren't they ever in public places with a lot of people around? You'd think the site of the World Trade Center would be rife with ghosts.

A place like the world trade center would send very bad waves to someone sensitive to spirits and only maybe (if they're lucky ;) ) they would see something.

In Paris there the Place de Grève where criminals were publicly tortured and executed during the monarchy. It's a place my brother is very reluctant to cross, he doesn't feel good here at all.

Science isn't able to prove or explain everything that is accepted as "real", such as love, or thought/the mind. Not everything can be effectively subjected to the scientific method, but that doesn't mean that we should reject the concept. I have had some experiences of the type that many here have already scoffed at, so I'm rather open minded about many things even though I have degrees in science. I'm also older than most of you here, so maybe by the time you are older you will also have the same type of experiences.

"Behind every man now alive stand thirty ghosts, for that is the ratio by which the dead outnumber the living."
— Arthur C. Clarke

And that was over forty years ago.

Even if ghosts only result from the most traumatic of deaths, we would be awash in a sea of spirits.
