Why are Alein Cultures almost always presented with unified religons ?

So had monotheistic Christianity gained an upper hand over Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc? How did that happen?

Upper hand? I would say that it just happens that certain Enterprise crew members, the inhabitants of the world seen in "Bread and Circuses" and Dr. Daystrom follow Christianity, which means it still has a strong presence in the 23rd century, but there are believers of other faiths. For example, in TOS' "That Which Survives," Ensign Rahda wears a Bindi (dot) between her eyebrows, which is of religious significance in Hinduism (and other faiths).

And of course having an African American women not only on the bridge but also the head of an entire Dept aboard ship goes without saying.
What could lead you to believe that Uhura is the head of a department? As opposed to say Palmer?
Really, would anyone be much interested in learning the excruciatingly detailed variations of fictional alien religious or cultural diversity?
Yes.

I remember this bit from Alien Nation.

"[I don't know this obscure bit of alien theology] George and I don't follow the same religion."

"You have different religions?" *beat* "Yeah, of course you do. Why wouldn't you?"
