Why all the hate for "The Immunity Syndrome" ?

Just to let you know numatrix, it's generally frowned on to resurrect old threads unless you have new stuff to add but I'm glad you did. ;)

This is one of my favorite episodes of TOS. It's odd that I like it so much because I'm normally very turned off by gross scientific absurdities and ludicrous plots - and this episode is King in that area. Spock's Brain, TNG-Masks, VOY-Threshold have nothing on this episode for absolute lunacy. But The Immunity Syndrome holds my rapt attention from start to finish. It's got plenty of drama, it has great character moments and probably the best special effects of the series. All you really need to do to eliminate all the problems with this episode is replace the ludicrous amoeba with a TNG-style quantum spatial anomaly or some such thing. I think if they had done that, this would be considered one of the best episodes of the entire franchise.

I would say numatrix added new stuff -- continuity errors.

I have no problem with the psychedelic oil blobs on a transparency amoeba. Reminds me of the light shows I used to dig at the Filmore when Airplane and Hendrix played. It's no less plausible than most Trek science.

I probably weighed in before, but to me this episode is dullsville. But like it if you like it. I like "Spectre" and "Eden" (not "Spock's Brain" though, I must say.) Be well.

This is an episode I have always enjoyed. It would not make it into my top 10 list, but definitely my top 20 list.

its a good episode. But, IMO, the editing is just off and some of the acting seems a bit, well, different. Can't put my finger on it. seems rushed to me...but still a good episode.

Actually I like this episode. I wouldn't go so far as to say it is my favorite but I would call it a solid B, B+ episode.

"Tell Dr. McCoy......he should've wished me luck....."

The look on McCoy's face when that 'last' transmission is heard, even though he did say it..he hadn't said it to Spock.

I love the overall atmosphere and the interaction between the characters.

I like this episode; I thought it was a pretty awesome concept. It reminds me a bit of an HP Lovecraft story. When people refer to the worst ep ever, they usually say "Spock's Brain", which is pretty bizarre but entertaining for its campiness.

I don't like the episdoes with Harry Mudd, especially "Mudd's Women." I'm not offended by it, I just don't think it makes sense: the women take the beautiful pills to make themselves pretty, when in fact it's just their attitudes towards themselves that are responsible for their beauty the whole time? Am I missing something here?

I just watched the remastered version of this for the first time. What bothered me was when they shot that anti matter warhead into the giant amoeba. Ok, so they destroyed it & all you still see is the bridge crew flouncing about in reaction to the explosion. Why did they NOT take this opportunity to insert an explosion scene where you can actually SEE the amoeba being destroyed? A missed opportunity...UNBELIEVABLE!!

Still, some of the best sexual innuendo dialogue...

KIRK: When do you estimate penetration?
SPOCK: Slowing now. Contact in eighteen point three seconds. Brace yourselves. The area of penetration will no doubt be sensitive. Contact

It was a depressing episode for me. Negative-everything. Draining... faltering... and one massively bad decision on the part of Captain James T. Kirk. They did survive this one, but man it took tremendous luck. They had NO idea what was waiting for them inside. It could've been a black hole for all they knew.

Also thought they were far too optimistic. Detonating an anti-matter explosion inside the nucleus wasn't a guarantee. For all they knew, the organism might've been more resilient and not badly damaged from the explosion. It was an all-or-nothing attempt. If it failed, that would've been it. They'd have been destroyed, just like the Intrepid.

But in any case, there was some good tension and it did add a little more dimension to the Spock/McCoy dynamic.

One of those C+ to B- episode for me..entertaining (in a mindless way) But I do like the psychedelic amoeba..
but even as a kid, I found the concept puzzling, Entertaining but puzzling..
