Whose names would you put on the wall?

Network executives will give notes about anything that catches their attention.
Well, if anything‘s going to convince me that this will happen it’s a Twitter account that stopped posting six years ago, when the platform was still actually called Twitter. :p But sure, studios sometimes give stupid or random notes. Why would that fact lead us to think that it’s likely the names in this piece of background art would be one of those things they would concern themselves with? Because they monitor what people on the Trek BBS and a handful of niche places online are complaining about?

Honestly, one of my main problems I've had with the memorial wall all along since it was revealed in the summer is that there are many characters there who don't seem to have gotten any promotions since we last saw them.

In the case of Nog, it's my head canon that he left Starfleet and entered politics, becoming the first Ferengi representative on the Federation Council when Ferenginar joined the Federation. Which would explain why his highest rank is Lieutenant and also why he became historically significant enough for Starfleet to name a ship after him.

Nope, but Aron's wife complaining in an interview is very possibly big enough thing that the network PR people will pick up on it and kick it up to the executives.

I seriously doubt it. Not even if it said “Cadet Nog”, spelled his name wrong or completely fogot to add it. Someone from the production team might concern themselves with something like this. But someone at Paramount? No way.

well. There you go.

Maybe that’s just the rank they had where they were honored on the wall.
That would explain why Kirk is listed as admiral but it doesn't account for why the red squad failures were honoured or why Wesley is honoured at a rank he never obtained. Poor Kim if it took him all the way until admiral before anyone noticed him.

It's a valiant (heh) effort but I just don't think any sense can be applied to it and we just file it under the many instances of background text we just ignore.

Yeah, if it just commemorates officers at the rank they held when their name was put there, that's still a kick in the teeth for Harry Kim. While so many officers, including fellow Voyager crew made it when they were a Lieutenant or Lieutenant Commander, he didn't do anything worthy of being placed there until he was an Admiral. Which, when you combine that with the fact his promotions were like delayed due to spending seven years an Ensign. Damn.

For that matter, Spock is listed as an Ambassador. He did nothing worthy of recognition on this Wall during his entire Starfleet career prior? Really?

it is odd that Ambassador Garak is on the wall

Maybe he was made an honorary member of the Academy
