Who's your pick for the new captain?

On Claudia Black - only if she spoke with her Australian accent. Heck it would be awesome to see some characters from other regions in the world, besides USA.

While we've had some of those in every show, tragically I think it got narrower as each show came and went. On Voyager, everybody on the bridge crew who wasn't an alien was from the U.S. ...Enterprise had Reed... Was Hoshi from the U.S.? I can't even remember anymore.

Hoshi was Japanese.

Hoshi was Japanese.

Yes, but was she a Japanese native or was she born in the United States...? I can't actually find out from any of the usual sources, maybe i'm missing it. I presumed we meant actually a globally diverse group of characters. IE: Uhura was from Africa, Scotty was native to Scotland...etc...etc...

She was a native, born in Kyoto.

That'd be pretty awesome. I remember I first saw her in Tomorrow Never Dies, and she actually came off as a better spy than Bond.

I have to say though, if the idea is to go with an non-Caucasian woman, I'd like them to go Latino, which has been greatly underrepresented in Trek (unless you count those playing other ethnicities), or make her Middle-Eastern. And, if they really want to push some buttons, have her be a full-practicing Muslim.

Like Mozhan Marnò from The Blacklist?

Sure. She's fantastic.
I'd love to see her in something else, for sure. Another actor, a Brit, is Adrian Lester. His turn in Hustle (he leads a group of con artists) was a lot of fun. Great range and a lot of fun to watch. I love anyone who makes Hamlet's soliloquy interesting.

Michelle Yeoh is still my choice but if we're going to have an Australian chick for captain as someone suggested, I say we put Margot Robie in a command-gold miniskirt and let her go all action star! I might even subscribe to CBS all-access for that!

Don't know if she'd be willing to commit to a television series anymore, but Sandra Oh would be awesome, too.

If it's set after Nemesis: Natalie Dormer (not necessarily playing a human character).

If it's set shortly after ENT: Captain Hoshi Sato?

I don't really like the idea of Claudia as the lead Captain, although I'd be happy if she was the STD equivalent of Tasha Yar.

You mean Tori Higginson? I liked her but SGA started writing her into cliches too much. I don't think she has the right presence to be the lead captain, but that could be my Atlantis recollections.

I think Gina Torres would be awesome. Can command an army or get down and kickass like the rest of them.

I looked her up, was talking about Rachel Luttrell who was mentioned earlier in this thread. I didn't like Higginson either. In Atlantis I wish they'd gone with the actor who played that character for I think one episode in SG-1.

Okay, Idris Elba is OUT and I'm jumping on the Michelle Yeoh bandwagon. Not sure who suggested first ( I know it wasn't in this thread) but whoever it was just won the internet.

She knows Kung Fu!!

A kung fu captain would kick ass!

Are you counting B'elanna Torres, or is the fact she's the only main character of that ethnicity what you mean by underreppresented? Of course I'm sure there's other ethnicities that have only one representatives among the main cast. Might need to make a list to check.
