Going back on my statement about no actors from well known scifi shows, I would like to see a female captain and here's a few I wouldn't mind seeing in the role.
Gina Torres, Michelle Rodriguez, Michelle Yeoh, Ming-Na Wen, Moon Bloodgood, & Jennifer Gardner (not sure about this last one).

Based on others mentioned here-
I don't like Ming-Na Wen at all although I haven't watched SHIELD.
Can't stand the actress mentioned that was on Stargate Atlantis (I actually hated that cast except for the lead guy).
Lee Pace creeps me out so no.
Of course Bassett would be awesome.
Couldn't go wrong with Torres either.
Chow Yun Fat could be cool.
Idris Elba would have been awesome if he wasn't in Beyond.
Lance Reddick could be good.
Don't like Patrick Wilson.
Fillion would be great but sounds like no white dudes.
Parminder Nagra...no.
Michael Weatherly could be interesting. Again though he's a white male.

An alien captain would be cool and I'd like to see more aliens in Starfleet and on the ship in general.

For myself, I'd be quite happy with Gina Torres as Captain. Taraji Henson or Nicole Beharrie would also be good
Captain America:TWS and CW are the ones that most know but he was also quite good in The Adjustment Bureau.

I don't really like the idea of Claudia as the lead Captain, although I'd be happy if she was the STD equivalent of Tasha Yar.
You mean Tori Higginson? I liked her but SGA started writing her into cliches too much. I don't think she has the right presence to be the lead captain, but that could be my Atlantis recollections.

We have seen women cast as either commanding officer (Janeway) or executive officer (Number One, T'Pol).
One combination we haven't seen yet is women cast in both roles on the same ship.

I am joking of course, but if these rumours are true and they decide to go with someone who is not well known, yet talented, I would like to see Kim Stinger get the job. She is great in Star Trek Continues.
If they go with someone famous then Kandyse McClure (BSG) or a more mature actress such as Sheryl Lee Ralph. Prehaps Angela Bassett?

Whoever gets the job everyone will be saying the character is the first black female Captain in Star Trek, in the same way people used to say that Janeway was the first female Captain, which is not true. Let us not forget the unnamed Saratoga Captain (TVH) and Captain Silva La Forge (TNG: “Interface”) both played by Madge Sinclair. Also Captain Tryla Scott (TNG: “Conspiracy”) played by Ursaline Bryant. There may be others that I can't recall. I seem to remember there being a black female Captain or Admiral as an extra in DS9 at some point but I could be mistaken.
