Punk on Bus has to be one of the best villains in all of Trek, despite only making a cameo. He represents all the spitefulness of modern society. He is everything the 23rd Century utopian citizens are not.
This guy freaked me out as a kid. You take your chances while riding public transportation, as Kirk and Spock find out. I always felt like I just walked I onto the set of the movie The Warriors whenever I rode the bus! One would encounter frightening people who listened to The Clash and Dead Kennedys.
Punk on Bus should have been the main baddie in the film. The Enterprise crew doesn't have enough distinctly "1980s"-type adventures in the film. There should have been a climatic throw down between Kirk's crew and Bus Punks crew at the Emporium department store at the mall!
