So the Doctor premiered his new threads this week. It really presents the first sort of costume change in a Doctor we haven't seen since Tom Baker, who changed his frock coat type, size and length frequently enough. Everyone since then was mostly color and pattern differences - and in the modern series, Eccleston changed his jumper color, and Tennant had two colors of the same suit and occasionally went without a tie, revealing various T-shirts underneath.

So what are we thinking of the new coat, now that we've seen it in action? Love it or hate it?

I like it, although it's different to the 11th Doctors style. He's a tweed wearing kind of guy. The long green coat is a bit general Doctorish.

I don't mind it. I like the tweed one too.

Personally, I think he looks best without the jacket.

I wasn't crazy about the idea at first, but I thought the coat they selected fit his style perfectly.

Plus it was just cool seeing him in something different.

Tennant's Doctor also wore a long duster styled overcoat.

Given to him by Janis Joplin, no less.
It was good to see a bit of a costume change. It has often occurred to me that 11 hadn't had an overcoat and 10 used his frequently.

The new coat is obviously warmer - we heard say that Matt Smith was very cold while filming last winter and requested warmer gear (unlike Tennant, he was clearly wearing fewer layers). I thought that it simply meant a warmer tweed jacket, since the one he started wearing this series looked much thicker, but it apparently refered to this longer coat. Thing is, he's been wearing this coat INSTEAD of the short tweed jackets, versus the long Joplin coat which went over his brown or blue suit. Tom Baker switched coat styles completely (long and short frocks), often more than once in a given series, before settling on the long red coat that saw him through the end of his tenure.

Dunno what Smith was complaining about the cold last year though, seeing how short those skirts that Karen Gillan was stuck with..!
