Who would you like to see cast as 'Number One' in Discovery?

Just finished the SUITS episode where Gina Torres' character made her exit from the show. I wonder if the timing of her departure and casting for Discovery happening soon is a coincidence? Or does she have another gig she left for I haven't heard about?

^ Geordi was a LTJG in the whole first season. Then a full LT in the second, and a LCDR in the third.

In the flashback scenes from "Identity Crisis" I'm not sure whether he was an Ensign or a LTJG.

I don't know. I doubt they'd have a First Officer as lead of the show if she was never going to grow out of being the First Officer, especially when Fuller said "she'll have many different ranks throughout the show".

I wonder how? Making her an Admiral wouldn't be so interesting as those generally aren't on a ship. Maybe a demotion? She makes a big mistake and have to work her way up again?

An XO (or acting XO) with the rank of Lieutenant (a la Number One from "The Cage"), then a promotion to Lieutenant Commander, Commander, and finally Captain when she gains full command. She could even command the ship as a Commodore, and perhaps gain promotion to the admiralty during a time of conflict (but ultimately keep the Discovery as her flagship).

I think they're paying homage to Hornblower, who went from Midshipman to Admiral of the Fleet over the course of eleven novels and six short stories. Admittedly over a period of 54 years (1794 to 1848).

Several people here mentioned Sarah Shahi would make a good Number one. I looked her up and came across this interesting interview from August:
"Looking ahead to her next project, Shahi is open to what's out there. "Knock on wood, I've been talking to a lot of incredible writers and showrunners, and I've been offered really, really wonderful things," she says. "It really has to move me enough to want to be away from my children. After doing three years in New York [on Person of Interest], that's hard for me. But at the same time I am getting a little antsy. I would like to find something."
(...)
"There's so many shows. So how do you pick a show that differentiates from everything else?" she says. "For me, it's not going to be some normal show—I can say that much. So I don't know what that next show looks like. But it's going to be something where people are talking. And honestly, it's gotta be big enough to move me away from my kids."

Fuller mentioned he already talked to some actors, and she mentions talking with showrunners. It may be a coincidence, but this hypothetical big, talky show she describes sounds very much like Star Trek.

She'll be joining The Catch in a recurring role for season 2. Not sure if that'll clash with DSC's production.

Sarah Shahi being a potential lead in Star Trek almost makes me want to see the catsuits back.

Well, she does look great in TOS Command Gold!

She one of those species that ages in reverse. She starts off a Admirals and over the course of the series works her way down to Ensign. In the series finale, we see her graduate SF Academy and then start her studies there.

i think that its time for deayne johnson to dawn a star trek uniform the rock needs to be on the bridge even if not captain: mark wahlberg would he great as an alien that only expressed the emotions of anger and confusion : but kind of serious about seeing the rock on the bridge

Infraction for spamming. Comments to PM.

Try going for quality over quantity from now on and make fewer of these one sentence replies. You've been talked to about this before.
